Hey to all..
when i make small variations in bpms of tracks i play in albeton, even just one or two units changing, the bass and some other elements of the track gets kind "destroyed".. it looses lots of quality..
is there any setting in ableton that i am missing or it is just like that ? (this would sucks hehe)

thank u guys!           www.myspace.com/beehivelive

You should check you're using the best Warp Mode for the material you're working with, you'll find it in the Clip View. The various modes aren't 100% perfect though, as the relationship between pitch and playback speed is one of the toughest things to break without introducing distortion. Depending on the track, the best quality might be obtained just by using Repitch mode and accepting that your tracks might be a little out of tune with each other. No more though than we've all got used to hearing with vinyl and CD DJing over the years           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

^^haha very true!

but lets asume we want 100%...

i found that some tracks sound better some less with time streching.. dont know why tho.

i think the 'mixmeister' algorythm is much better then 'live' so i re-bpm them there (also not more then 2-3 bpm up or 1-2 down) and save several versions.

i tried save acidized also with markers (should be great) but its gettin realy weird sound , not doing that again..

also in cdj when i mix the track will be 70% on the original bpm with changes only for mix purpose.. i dont believe the crowd really notice 1-2 bpm here or there but the melody very important to me , re-pitched tracks almost never sound as good as without.

(hey since we re-pitch evryhing does the relativve tuning inside the track stay ok? i found not but maybe just artifakt)

I reckon it should, otherwise it would mean there's some kind of next-gen Melodyne action going on in there somewhere. An interval is an interval, no matter what its pitch, surely? Or maybe it's doing a cross between pitch-shifing and frequency-shifting (if that's possible?) which might well mess with the interval frequency relationships of the audio.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I've never achieved such a better result as having a CDJ playing the track I need to be pitched up or down, recording the wave thru my soundcard.

All those vst kind of "stretching" tools makes bad results on tracks 'cuz of their lenght.

Hardware rules!

Interesting.

I wonder why the pitch up/down sounds better on your CDJ then your PC, because when it comes down to it, the bits that are doing the pitching up and down in a CDJ are software.

I wonder if it could be the interpolation method?

Anyhow, for whatever reason, I too much prefer mixing on a Hardware CDJ.

If I'm mixing in software, I only ever go with pitch up/down though.

The artefacts from timestretching drive me nuts.           .
