I havent seen any specific thread liek this but idk so please refrain from revoking my license to um... be... a person idk. Anyway...

If anyone else is as annoyed as I was, listening to the awful DEET doot doot doot Live metronome sound the whole time warping, saw no preference setting for it, and gave up (i admit i gave up) and accepted it; Its so easy Skazi could do it, WHILE throwing the Dio, drinking a Pepsi, AND playing guitar all in a power pose.

Ableton>Live x.x.x>Resources>Miscellaneous>Metronome
Replace with whatever WAVs you like, just make sure the filenames are changed to whatever the original sounds' was, and start at 1.1.1 (durr). And never hear deet doot doot doot again if you dont want to, except in your dreams.

Just passing that nugget along, I know its not much of a discussion or whatever, but I figured I probably am not the only one who never really spent much effort trying to change that.

And if I am, then, this is my declaration of dumbass-ness, and self-de-dumbass-ification. Now you too can be de-dumbass-ified.           .

What are you warping that you need the metronome??

Warping tracks in ableton 8 is super ridiculously easy. Have track. Use Mixmeister/Rapid Evolution to detect the BPM. Set master tempo to said BPM. Load file into ableton, find the first kick drum, set it to 1.1.1, right click on that warp marker and 'warp from here at x tempo'. Go to last kick drum, nudge its grey marker so that its snapped to the grid. Zoom into various portions of the track to check that everything is on time.

After this is done, adjust the beginning of the track if you want to keep the intro etc.

With this method I warp entire albums in under 10 minutes...

that is cool that you can change the metronome sound though            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Im warping tracks for dj sets...

And I use Live 7 rather than 8, but basically have hte same process as you, set warp, movei 1.1.1 to a good start point, set the end...

Ive done it without the metronome, but idk I guess its mroe for verification of proper sync, particularly in tracks with half-bar extensions or other such non-8-bar-exactly patterns, for example theres a Baphomet Engine vs Datakult track on Psy is Dead, i forgot which one (and ought to rip that one now that i think of it)...

I tried Rapid Evolution and it crashed and i havnet tried again yet as the computer has been working on my live set... When I get a chance tho... (1500 tracks total but that includes non-dance stuff)

Usually Live does a good job getting the bpms correct give or take a hundredth. Or at least so far I either have known the proper bpm, or figured it out easy enough... So far...

I guess for the sake of having a REAL USE for hte thing, I do use it to verify proper warp
ings on full tracks that i use alongside loops and midi....

Now im all questions, do I really need to use it, have I yet again found an unnecessary habit...

Also I use 7 cuz it does everything I use Live for, which is djing digitally and the loop-midi-orig trx thing that could theoretically be termed 'live', and has the warp system I got to know so well, also, the real reason was i was formerly working on a 2.6 p4 with a gig, so all the cpu and ram i could free up the more I could delve into midi sequencing on the fly, which using 8 on that comp, allowed 2 midi devices of relatively low use before maxing cpu, when I took the same idea and remade it wiht 7, I ran 4 midi, 5 loop tracks, a Renoise rewire, and master channel fx all a t the same time wiht 60% cpu on the p4. That had me sold, and since I dont usually do much other than described with Live, and 7 does it just fine, with less processor, Im not really inclined to change up again. (to be fair I used 8 from initial release to 8.1.1 which seemed like long enough to decide)

And sometimes Ive found that post bounce (tho ive not been bouncing full tracks lately), the sync sometimes is off, and a quick metronome run thru usually makes it obvious (whereas I have sat down with the bounced files all ready to mix realtime only to have to rewarp either on the fly and correct after, or stop then restart which I hate to do when in a good groove...).

But of course by all means if Im doing anything wrong or superfluously let me know, I taught myself with youtube tutorials for the most part, so if theres a better way to do it, por favor disillusion me cux idk whats right, just what works for me

But Im sticking with 7, that much at least im confident about.

I dont know how long it takes me to warp an album in 7 but somehow 10 mins seems long... shit if ii know tho

Im leaving with more questions than i started, but hey...

NO MORE DEET DOOT

also the most valuable things to learn are what one is doing wrong, or needlessly.

hey that seems like its working for you just fine, I wouldn't change it I started with Live 8 so I don't know how the warping is different - though I've heard people say that it is significantly so.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

8 seems to warp the waveform to fit the markers, whereas in 7 one just click-adds markers then drags em to where they need to be, more like a warp envelope with nothing affecting the waveform itself.

and good to hear im not entirely crazy thinking i had a good thing going

I feel its good to self analyze especially when theres a possible better way that i missed           .

Different enough to be extremely fucking annoying if you've got used to how it worked before, until you get used to the new way.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
