I'm still wondering how this is done on a regular TB-303 synth since it's not having any modulations.

Guess you'll know what I'm talking about!?

You know that aggressive WOOH WOOH, a bit like a Lions growling.
Usually played in a low key.

the distortion and filter movment create the modulation....

So you would have to manually open the filter, I gues?

hmmm not necissarily... depends what you want.
sometimes the envelope alone will do the trick.

low notes, high reso, gritty distortion after the tb, well set filter envelope + manual cutoof tweaking.

some nice delay too. i always like delays flying around especially on sounds where you automate cuts and such.

come to think of it i like delays flying around on everything

I add distortion and bitcrusher to my 303 lines in order to get that crispy sound.

Djones i know the sound you're talking about. it's funny that a lot of people know that sound and a lot try to make it. it's hard to mimic it, i've done it myself but it's not perfect yet.
i've used z3ta, high res (max or almost) with a synced lfo on the filter (i don't like the sound of envelopes when making this sound). you have to tweak it to the extreme because since the resonance is really high the frequencies really matter. tweak the lfo amount, the frequency (should be 1 beat or two or arround that), resonance, filter cutoff. add a bit of distortion and you're done.
it's a tough chanlenge. it would be nice if everyone posted their tries, in diferent synths           Pyrex :: Traveling without moving

I think I know now what you mean.
It's simple

Get a TB-303, or a Audiorealism Bassline V2 will do too.

Write a sequence via MIDI or internal Sequencer and make sure that the bassline has notes with a velocity of 127, respectivly "accents" set.

Turn cutoff to 30%, turn resonance to 100%, turn envelope to 0%, turn decay to 100%, turn accent to 100%.

press play and listen to the "bow". It will be wherever there is an accent set . Its sound is also depending on amount of distorsion and initial note.

"TB-song" (from 1998) my ode to the 303 so to speak. I guess you mean that kind of bows.

here is my short try in zebra 2
its not perfect, only try to emulate the accent of 303 with the arpmod routed to filterenvmod, resonance, and volume
