how quadrafuzz works?

i wanna try to build a quadrafuzzclone for synthmaker in fl studio. my question is : has quadrafuzz one distortion/overdrive/saturation- modul for the complete frequencespectrum and the 4 bands only mix this signal in different db's to the inputsignal or there are 4 single dist./overdr./sat. modules?

the latter.
if you split the bands after the distortion you won't be able to control the actual amount of distortion on each band but only the level as you mentioned.

I dunno but I like to yank the gain knob all the way down, the output knob all the way up, and then play with the shape buttons. It's a weird plugin... |

quadrafuzz has an overdrive knob for each band. then it has a graphical interface which you can control where the bands start and end and their volume. from the looks it looks like that graphical interface comes after the distortion but my ears tell otherwise.
then you have two "master knobs"... one to set the volume of the signal, the other is a "master" overdrive knob.

thanks for all hints. at this moment i must digg much deeper in synthmaker and dsp coding to improve the filters seperating the bands.

The GUI part I'm sure is before the distortion and controlling the width of the band and height is probly the resonance of the band.
You might want to mess around with mixing a lp and hp 1 or 2 pole to make a bp so that you can actually set different width to the bands. For some reason people don't seem to like to make BPs with both res and width control. Set the HP to under the LP to filter out the bottom then filter out the top with the LP. Then add a knob that connects to both their cutoffs for cut of the BP. Width is a bit more tricky, you have to have a knob that when you move it is adding to the HP cut while subtracting from the lowpass.
You could just use 2 knobs instead of the GUI. Woulnd't seem worth the effort to program the logic to not get the bands to cross but that can be interesting in its own right. |

the main layout is ready. at this moment i will work on the algorithm for the filters to get different pole (2-6).
i only work with lp and hp and have to finetune the overlap on the low and high borders to the other bands.
at this moment i have an input for the three borders of the 4 bands and four knobs of the bandlevels.
when the sound is ok i will begin to build a similar gui. i think i have to use bitmaps to make the graphical interface.

Does FL support DX? There was a DX version of Quadrafuzz but I suppose it isn't for sale any more...

I know that theres also a vst version for the quadrafuzz... unfortunately the company that made it Specrtal Designs went defunct.... Nobody's selling it anymore, partially cause it's licensed to Steinberg, but there's still an old version floating around somewhere...
I tried to search around and see if anyone still sells the original version 1.0 but was unable to find it.
