So,Ive sent my bassline+percussion sample to friend,he told me it sounds like crap.

I can't really hear it,mostly because I work with the cheapest stuff money can buy.And also because Im noob to this.

What should I work to improve this ? What is missing, what is not there?

Its only bassline+kick and percussion,BPM 135,and it starts around 0:14.

All the VSTs and plugins are flstudio native (to understand the principles of what Im doing instead of...).

EQ it around 120 and 2000, boost those, or play around with it, preferably dont remove any frequencies but the very lows and very high's in the bass.

Medium sustain, low decay, higher volume
and you should get what you want somehow            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

I said I like it dirty, not muddy.

Maybe cut some off the high frequencies.
Add maybe a little a bit of chorus? It will make you bass more liquid and organic.

it's not fat enough at the low area (40-60 hz). and it's too dirty from distortion or something.           http://www.youtube.com/user/ChichkeMultiTech

If you have any spare money, you should try buying some monitor speakers or headphones, there really is a huge difference. When I started out first, I made stuff and it sounded pretty damn good on the speakers I used, but the truth hit me in the face like a cold piece of concrete when I took a look at it with my headphones. Mixing is hard.

I loved the percs in your track, but like the others said, the bass had a bit too much distortion and wasn't as compressed as it should've been. Also the kick lacked power and sounded a bit bad. But it was a very good start tho

What headphones you started to use ?

Yea,thanks for the percs thing,I have no lack of imagination, only lack of fuking money.

Ok,will redo the bass. Can you tell exactly what is wrong with the kick ?
Also, can I overcome somewhat by using spectrographs to analyze those things ?

I'm no expert but I'd add a maximus and or soundgoodizer to the kick, but be careful, they can easily distort your kick so go on easy with those.

About the bass I can't really say what would sound better without looking at the actualy project file.
