cummas, tell us what do you already have,
(computer, its memory, CPU, harddisk, sound/audio card, musical instruments, power amplifiers, monitors)
from then on we can try calculating:
you haven't given us the initial conditions :=)

cummas in australian dollars....
my asus a7a266 / 1.4ghz cost me $1800
(use to have a shop so i got it at cost, less tax,
but you should be fine with your computer for now.)
gina sound card cost $1400
nord lead 2 cost me $2700
behringer x1804mx cost $1100
jackson atx guitar cost $1500 (had for 4 years)boss gt-5 guitar efx processor $1300
next is my amplifier and monitors (using my 100w carvin guitar amp at the moment, by no means shabby in volume or sound.)
all this said all you need is fruity loops 3,acid or reason to start laying down some loops and samples and play around with them...i did this for the last year and only up till now bought the hardware so don't go wasting any money yet..
enjoy...... if you have problems on getting software via cable or whatever mail me a message and next outdoor doof i'll bring you a cd with the software needed....   :)

IT DEEPENDS, IF YOU WANT TO DO IT AS A HOBBY, BUY FUN SOFTWARE LIKE FRUITY LOOPS, EJAY, AND ETC. BUT IF YOU WANT TO GO PRO (FIRST LEARN HOW TO USE HEAVY EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARES LIKE CUBASE AND SOUNDFORGE). AND WHEN YOU FEEL YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH YOU WILL KNOW WAHT YOU SHULD BUY.

To start you don't need really much!
You computer will be prety good for the start:)
You just need a few basic programs which you can
find on the internet and maybe even a simple MIDI
keyboard for about 100$:):):)

man!

that 15" monitor... That THE most important thing here! forget about everything they saying - get a 19" monitor! yeah that's right! you'll see how music pops into yer eyes!
uhm..

just letting my words out.
