Just a small research
Do you use premade samples in your music, even with processing? Or do you do it by hear one-by-one? The same goes for loops?
Do you think using premade loops and samples in production can still be called ``production?``

I, for one, do not use any samples (EXCEPT sometimes for certain single precussions; Hihats, Crash, Toms ect).
make my own kick, lead, sounds, drumloops, all. to be as much unique as possible.
prefer to use FL drumsyth live,. to make my own hats too.

I often use one or two hihat/percussion loops (rex files) to compliment my own drum sounds, but I usually rearrange them a little to give the exact feeling I'm looking for.
In 95% of the cases, I use my own made kickdrums, snares and hihats, as well as all or most of the melodic sounds.
Other than that, I sometimes use sampled instruments (I love my Virus, but there are some sounds that it just can't produce), voices and sometimes ambiences. No loops or precomposed stuff though except for the REX files.
I think there's nothing wrong with using samples, since there's just no way to synthesize some voice samples, ambiences or instrument sounds.
I also don't think there's anything wrong with using sampled rhythms (or parts of rhythms), since that's a part of the music that tends to be more "anonymous" than for instance melodies, basslines and such.
I'm pretty sure however that it would be possible to make unique sounding tunes with only premade stuff if you choose your stuff well, but for me that takes away the fun of making music. |

I love using drum loops from old funk/motown records.
kicks and leads and most drones/atmospheres, I make my self. 909/808 hats, 808 clap are a must for me, I just love them sounds.
Generally I am not going to think twice about using a sample I really like, simply because I did not make it my self.

Nope, no premade loops, I do use a few synth samples but just a few and not in a loop, I re-edit everything.
I do not make any percusion sounds kick, bass, highs, or drums, none of that I make, I just have a huge library of single hits I use.
I know lots of guy who use loops regularly but most of them are into Breaks. IMHO breaks are just loopy enough for it to work well.

I use loops... I chopp loops!
I like pre-made drum kits.
That's production. You always end up by customizing what is already done.

You can do a track entirely with samples, right?
Maybe not trance, but you can do it.
Personally I use loops... I chopp loops!
I like pre-made drum kits, whatever...
That's production.

90% own stuff.... and some samples here and there... mostly.... single hits and percussive elements.... Or unless its some real cool fx that i got.... But even if you use samples a lot... u can really do it creatively....
Remember..... one of the greatest electronic tracks from our time... Prodigy - Smack my bitch up..... was all made from samples.... ... excerpts from tracks by others.... manipulated very well.... to create a historic one! ..... So use em well

For drums and percussion I use sample libraries only (one-shots) as a source. Kicks usually make by myself, it's very fast and easy with tools like BazzIsm.
All the rest - hand made. Except some special fx samples, like water or airplanes.
However, most of the stuff is made already, so the art of today is the art of putting it together in right proportion so nothing wrong if there is 0 % of your own sounds in your track, ask Liam Howlett if you are still in doubt ))

its lot of fun to use some loops and edit them to make something new but in psy i rarely use loops . sometimes i just load one to get the groove quantize and use my own samples or synths, for drums loops in the backgroud try one filter on each side with different lfo speed and lot of distortion |

loops maybe only on percussion for me...but i always end up rearranging and editing those before i get them the way i want....
apple loops
nothing wrong with using samples imo, as long as they fit in nicely with the track and dont sound like just a bunch of sounds thrown all over the project randomly.
gotta be careful tho when selecting samples, cause quite a few have been overused

i use loops for percussion(also chop here n dere) coz imm relatively poor at it... hehe.... nd also for my kix.... other dan that if i got ne good sample mayb i use it but i might chop it and send it thru diff fx channels so it can sound diff and effective.
but i dont think all this really matters.... wether u use ready made samples coz if u can make ur track sound good den its all good |
