ok ok ok im starting a label and have been communicating with some big names and getting quotes for buying a song from them to put on my V/A compilation. 300-600 euro upfront for a single song from various respected names. i guess thats decent considering they are widely respected house holdnames and i'm a newbie label. how much would you liscense your track for? whats is too much?
any other advice/input?

go my son and may the force be with
you
this topic is realy not in place talking about artists fees the metter is how long are you going to be a label and loose money take my advice
release only to your house artists becausethe money will come from the booking % tha you will shave
try to get as low as you can dont look for big names make them !
you shell see your profit fast the other way is just a status not realy working pepole fall this way
maybe 1 or 2 names is good
good luck and i wish you all good if its original artists ill buy it
peace

so an all orginal line up is the way to go then?

i was thinking 1 or 2 big names to catch some eyes in the stores, and then the rest the tracks are from friends and house artists. money isn't an object really (well it is but we are very lucky to say its not the highest concern) its about promoting our names, and taking the extra time to make a quality V/A.

i know that sounds lame or selfish, getting a big name on the v/a to promote ourselves. but i dont think we will be taken seriously without a household name in there..... or am I wrong?
or do people just not care, its sounds good so lets just buy it.
but then again why even try listening to it because i don't see any familiar names....

some "pointers" for all..

1.whats your budget ?? will you compromise the quality of the music for money reasons?

2.whats your real goal ?? is label the best way to get it?

3.what music you like the best? is there a reason why "big names" get more money then others in the first place? is it realy better music or you buy name only?

4.how you gonna get your investment back ?
