Just wondering for those of you that produce electronic music....

If/what instruments can you play? Can you compose music for them? What music theory did you study? Did you go to school to learn it?

ive done 2 years in 'yamaha' school when i was 14-16 then 2 years private lessons , all on guitar. this where i learn most theory from (oh yeah and 1 year sessions on organ when i was 5)
also my brother is drummer so i can play simple rock beats etc.
can probably and also did compose drum-bass-guitar stuff quite easy , psy production involve more then that i think.
beside that im pritty lucky to born in times and love music that is not all electronic , wide background ensure not to stuck in the creative part the very least.          www.sattelbattle.com

8 years of music school (piano + theory etc)

then learned guitar basics by myself. (was quite easy after piano)

This experience helps a lot in creation of melodies and feeling harmonies etc...

But i like music with no or very simple melodies lol =)

I played the clarinet (poorly) for about 6 years from grade school to high school.

I know a bit about music theory, never took formal classes on anything music related. Learning new things is easy for me though (after doing engineering at college, everything is simple in comparison) so I doubt I'll have trouble picking up information as I go.

I probably take more of a programming approach to my music than most people here just due to the way my mind works. From djing for about a year and a half I've learned a lot about music from a "feeling" standpoint, which has helped me the most. Production is also a wonderful thing for my ocd .

I do wanna start to learn an instrument (not sure what yet) that I can incorporate into my music. Might just end up being me beating some bongos or something .          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

i know it has taken me two years of pure determination to understand and to get this far, and not enough time to learn it all!

Most of what i have learn in that times i have forgotten, because after that i stop liking music.....but wen i found psytrance.....oh my good.....all the frenessy is back.....=)
Maybe i forgot very things, and i have lost very skills in playing guitar and piano but my head and my ears not...
I thing that is very usefull...Psy trance is music too...but i now very producers that dont have any studies in music.....the most important for me.....the ear....with a good ear everything is possible...

^ probably can close the thread after that bit of truth

with the way production software is, you could know next to nothing about music, but if you have a good ear you can make some great stuff still           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

might be the truth but i think if you got good theory knowledge you can achive pro results way faster than by try & error..

used to play saxophone way years ago..and don`t remember all that theory stuff..i think its my biggest problem right now to be creative with multiple sounds..

i started playing guitar about 15 years ago. i took lessons at first for a few months, but ended up quitting and just learning by watching people play and just teaching myself. i played bass in various metal bands for about 8 years (started on bass because it was easier to find bands, since most people wanted to play guitar...and they i just kind of stuck with it). i also taught myself some very basic piano and drums.

i know the basics of music theory, but it's not yet natural or instantaneous. i still have to kick things around in the head or try to picture guitar fretboard to figure things out. same with sheet music, i can figure it out, but it takes a while.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

I know there are 6 strings on a normal guitar, and the normal tuning on those are EADGBE.. and i know all standard major and minor ackords, as for piano... i know the minor pentatonic scale best on the guitar and the melodic minor on keyboard... i would say i know some basic theory, or less.. Trying to improve...

I play some handdrums and got a pretty good rhythm but i would really love to learn more about drums.. i am a beginner...

I know some stuff about electronic music...
Mostly i know its real fun...
