in my opinion, in the underground/non mainstream music industry, most of the money made by artists comes from playing live/dj sets.
because of piracy, you'd struggle to make ends meet relying on cd/digital download sales alone.
the day you release your cd is the same day someone buys it and gives it away to everyone who wants it for free, that's what happens nower days.
ask the guy off ektoplasm how many cd's he sells off his site compared to the 1's downloaded off his site for free, i bet there is obviously no comparison.
if your gigging every weekend you wouldn't even care about sales.
but thats just my humble opinion.
