i think everyone when beggining to use vst, gets plugins like crazymoslty as said because of the presets and its ok for a while i guess. but when u learn how to use them u realize its a waste of time and space to have many hanging around which u probably wont ever use. specially when making psytrance music specifically,, not all plugins in my opinion are optimal for this kinda of music. its the same as with hardware, most psy is made with certain synths, not only because its fashion but because virus and nordlead or neuron or others simply work, the same with vstis in my opinion, just to name some albino3, vanguard just work and when u learn how to use them and not use presets ull find that innovative sounds depend on the knowledge , not the quantity nor quality of the presets u may have, so if ure really good u may just even be able to use even one synth,, even for percussion,.. not that i am, but ive seen people do it and its in my opinion more respectable than getting a ton of gear u dont know how to use. power of cpus nowadays is really an advantage, the diversity and quantity of vsts available is sometimes too overwhelming and in my opinion , inmy case it has sometimes been negative in the sense of losing focus in mastering one tool at a time. ok sorry for the long post. my adviece would be , instead of getting lots of vsts and sounbanks, get manuals or tutorials for a synth u really like and get to know it inside out, its not so inmediate gratiffication, but ur music will be a lot more interesting ,original, better.           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

Pixan, I respect what you are saying and know that it works for a lot of people...

...but I totally disagree

For me, its all about having different filters and oscs for different sounds that really does make the difference with tracks. Its perfectly possible to write an entire track with say the A1 synth, but I can't help feeling that good though it is, there are situations where a different approach would be far more optimal. For example, it doesn't exactly have the smoothest of uppers, so you need a synth that can do that. What if you want to do a wavetable scanning noise, or vector synthesis. Or what if the resonance qualities of the filter you are working with are just plain well wrong, for no other reason apart from subjective preference? You might want two sounds in the same freq area, and using exactly the same filter with exactly the same oscs leads to a lack of clarity here, which is more easily resolved by using a different synth.

I would agree that learning one synth inside out when you are just starting out is a very very good idea, but these skills are totally transferable in most cases.

Variety is the spice of life!
