how many voices?

propably a stupid question but i am lost with this one..
i choose one voice when i make a bass ok?
how i decide how many voices i use for the leads pads etc?
more voices more fat...but where there is an end? |

You need to be careful with that on basslines. It might sound OK on your monitors but usually several voices will cause rumbling, particularly when they are not in sync/ phase (like you have two voices and one is 50% off).

That depends on what sound you want to create. If you want a polyphonic lead, that sounds really phat you want as many voices as you are layering midi notes. When you only layer up to two midi notes, you need two voices, when you layer up to 4 you want 4
voices etc.

Ever heard of d'n'b & dubstep?
But for tight kbbbk basslines it's really not a good plan to use unison detune or something like that I guess.
