Go ahead and count with pen and paper. You'll end up with the same information as bukboy has already shared. Theory comes AFTER the fact. You don't make music based on it. You can completely deny following the guidelines for as long as you want but until you start paying attention, and you know them well, you won't be able to break them appropriately. |

There are no rules.
People say you musn't use half step patterns... bull
I've heard drum and bass which flipped forwards by half a beat every ??? (32) barss in a patternised way and was just so trippy. Yes, it threw people, but yes, people got into it and actively enjoyed being thrown. Familiarity breeds contempt!
As long as there is a pattern people will dig it, and get off on it. IME.

try writing a song without breaks it's fun and challenging.... see how some artists can give light & shade, energy & relaxation without stopping the kick drum inspiring stuff! |
