i'm moving to a new house in a coupla weeks... it will be the first time i have a dedicated room for the studio.

so i'm going to be able to set everything up from scratch, and yeah i'm going to try some room treatment if necessary!           http://www.myspace.com/aeonaeon

I have no idea how many of us have done so... I know I have done it and probably others have too.

i made 4 rockwool-pads for mid/high-feq´s
(2m x1m each pad). i placed them at the mirror-
points... and you know what? i hear no difference.
what is the thing, i need, to hear a (good) difference? what is the way to go on?

from my experience, the mid-lows and the lows
sounds different on other systems. but i cant
say what it is exactly.

cheers

Awesome guys, yeah, I just bought 4 Bass Traps, and 7 Acoustic Panels. Cost me $671.60 w/tax. I bought them from Tech Nature (www.technature.ca) here is Toronto. They are a great reputable company, with high quality eco friendly acoustic materials made from cotton. The price is a great deal compared to many of the other companies selling Fibreglass acoustic materials.

If your having problems with your low Freq's, you need to address the corners of your room. Low Freq's tend to build up in the corners of the room. This is probably why your mixes sound different on other systems. A couple options are,
1. Get some bass traps,
2. Change your mixing position in your room, or
3. Get a reference CD to check your work against. That way you'll have a better idea of what to do to your mix to make it sound proper & weather or not your room is coloring the sound. Just make sure that your reference CD has the "sound" your looking for, it doesn't have to be the same genre, just that you can hear everything nicely, where every instrument has its own space, without fighting. Having multiple reference CD's from multiple genres is also a good idea.

And if all that fails, it might be your monitors.

Started with foam years ago, but I was fooling myself. If you're going to do it on a limited budget, just buy slowly and get good traps.

I've binned all the foam, now I have

9 x 2m by 1.5m Rockwool felt covered boxes (DIY)
6 x Ghost acoustic blocks
2 x Ghost Big Blocks
2 x Ghost Wedges

Could do with some ceiling treatment, but the room sounds pretty sweet now. Mixes translate very well. I moved house 3 weeks ago and got a larger studio room and it made a big difference. My old weird shape room, complete with half octagon window bay, acting like a parabola, was a massive brick wall in my production!

Room is everything. Don't skimp.

8 selfbuilt basstraps (15 cm deep rockwool)
12 Primacoustic absorbers (about 7 cm deep each)
2 primacoustic clouds (about 7 cm deep, 60cm wide each)
+ recoil stabilizers

Made a HUGE difference.

Going to build another 4-8 basstraps, dont really know how much more room ive got for them.

Seriously, just skip ALL other equipment and use the money to treat your room. There is no more effective (not to speak of cost/effect) way to make your music sound better. After youve treated your room, _then_ you can start thinking about hardware compression/eq etc....

I used to have a treated room but now I live in a place where I don't have a dedicated studio room so I have to leave things how they are. Fortunately the room doesn't sound too bad but I really look forward to the time when I can have a dedicated room again.

I built my own bass traps from MDF and Rockwool insulation, heavy as hell but they made a huge difference in the sound of my room.
