In the end the only thing that matters is if the final product sounds good. Everyone produces differently so this will be different for each person. I'm guilty of having tried to get a certain number of channels before I thought a track was complete, but now it's more of hearing if there's enough sounds.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

How many instruments i use per track ?

Well .. Many . Must say all are change from a track to track
but if i take the average its some thing like 50 Vst or more .

I like an cinematic touch/feeling in , Only the intro is 10 Vsts .

But when you working with midi files for 85% of your track
and you want an abundant and large sound that is normal
and you must use the all weapon arsenal or most of it .

There's also more things you can do to add complexity to sounds rather than just adding more channels of sound. Filtering is a great way to do this.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

that's the question that gibson sayd in "the art of mix" is the difference between an empty mix (with few instruments and audio samples) and a full mix (with many sounds and instruments)

you should think about what do u want for your track, there's no problem in getting an full mix, but it's hard to get an nice eq and organize (in a dinamic way) the sounds that u want to be louder or lower!

Less is in fact more!
Export to audio..

i could manage to work with 16 tracks only and still get something interesting out of it....
Maybe bounce some perc tracks together,
also some leads...

and really you could make a cool track with only 5 tracks, with lots of live tweaking or automation that change the sounds, also there is program change,,,

less less less less less confusion, less problems
