The post below uses the term "you" to apply to any individual reading this who fits the criteria below, not any specific individual.
The fact that "everybody else is doing it" is no excuse for you to do it also.
You really aren't doing anybody a favor by pirating music even though you seem to think you are.
It's attitudes like that that keep artists from concentrating on further developing their music by having to take day jobs to survive.
If artists can spend so much of their time, energy, and money into making the music you enjoy, the least you can do is show some appreciation by contributing a few cents out of your pocket so that they can eventually buy a piece of bread.
Yes, the help you give the artists by actually buying their tracks is minimal as an individual, but it adds up. If everyone did this then the result would be more, better new music.
Of course, the sad reality is more people would rather spend their time and energy to get something for free instead of spend the same time and energy to show a minimum of respect and support towards the music they claim to love so deeply. This improper attitude has grown so rampant that it has become almost pointless to do anything besides give music out for free. While I personally feel better about giving my music out for free opposed to selling it, it sucks that the community traps myself and others into being forced to resort to this option.
Not to mention the fact that you're essentially bragging about it is just whipped cream on top of an ice cream sundae of insult.
Just out of curiosity, most of the music available for pirating is in mp3 format. Are you as a DJ actually playing mp3 quality music for people on the dancefloor? I really hope not. If you're playing poor quality encoded music over kilowatt sound systems, then I pity the people who pay to listen to it and you have no business DJing if this is indeed your preferred modus operandi.

Not really.
I'm not thinking of myself when I say that, I'm thinking of all those who stay up until 3 AM making our music when they have to go to work the next day. If you find ego in that, then... whatever.
In fact, implying that you're capable of breaking ego bubbles and feeling like you need to comment it might cause your own comment to be easily turned around on you.
I do enjoy the scene but I also take it seriously because it means a lot to me. It has also done a lot for me. So I owe it enough to to both defend it and also be critical of it, at the very least.
