you might want to specifiy if you intended only the amount left for the label after paying artists, mastering, artwork design and printing, assembly... or else.... i think it's a little vague right now...i know if a label in wholesale gets 5$ for a cd they seem pretty happy about it

I thought when the question was about how much they make would mean the profit to be specific.
Like I said, in that case it's normally less than a dollar per CD. The artists get about the same to share.
I would say $5 is quite a low figure from the distributor, but probably not uncommon for small lables.
A more common figure would be 5-6 euro from what I know.

Sounds like crap buisness to me... (based on the facts written here above) though i believe the numbers here above are not quite precise or even close to being precise... cause i see no point in keeping a label up that earns 50 cent for a C.D.
Nontheless it does make sense that the fact the major labels today are just sub devitions of huge coorporates. like Sony , Philips , Virgin and etc....
It's remnants of the past, small labels will always remain small and ear peanuts and the big ones well, they just do it to have a share of the market and still enjoy the profits of a dying industry.
Eitherway, bying a record today wasn't like buying it 15 or 20 years ago.
The excitment, hype , the hobby , it's all a thing of the past... especially in pirate heaven - hobyless Israel.
I might be wrong here cause i havn't checked into the real numbers or facts, but since there are so many labels and artists here on the forum maybe somone could enlight us.
That would be nice.
I like Trance, so i am called The TrancEisT. but hey... what about people who like Rap? what are they called? |

Its all depending on the quality of the product..
If you make a nice booklet it will cost you more..
There is also a difference in jewelcase and digipack aswell as there is a difference in how many you print.
