man, same here. i hate it. are u a Virgo by any chance? That is something that really irritates me and even stops me from making cool music. we need to overcome that.
I remember when I had my P4 back in the day I could load it fully when like 60-70% of the track was done. Then Core2Duo were introduced, I bought that at once for plenty of $ and for some time it was sufficient. But now same shit again - I can barely do 75% of the track when it starts crackling like hell. Keeping in mind that I have 2 uad cards and use maximum latency (~30 ms) I go mad about it.
Ok later this year I will probably upgrade to some posh i7 but now Diva comes into play.
WHEN IT IS GOING TO BE OVER, may I kindly ask.

Just don't have VST running on all those guys... render to audio and you'll be fine.
I keep my core2duo meter not so high even with 100+ channels. |

50-70 usually.
I used to have a crazy amount of sends but now I almost never use sends - now I just use lots of Audio Effect racks instead and my projects are *much* cleaner and easier to manage.
Having a shitload of sends all with automation on them is such a hassle - especially when you want to bounce down sections and work in audio. Racks FTW.

Will, so u put a new reverberation unit on each audio channel where you want it? I mean isnt that much more hassle than setting up 2-3 verb in the beginning and sending there everything.

I feel like putting individual verbs maybe a little better, you can then toss an EQ on the reverb out put for each sound instead of as a whole. honestly i usually bounce my thing with revrb anyway becuase playing with the tails is really fun, adds lots to the track too. this is probably why i end up with ~100 tracks each time. but some only have like 10 audio clips in them or something. I usually use groups to organize everything so i can navegate easily.
its really a matter of each persons way of doing it.. no right answer only DAW fun
@Will - absolutely - ableton is worth it just for the audio FX rack. and the resample mapping possiblity. sooo nice --

Yeah I just put a new reverb on the channel, set it to 100%, group it into a rack, add a new chain then tweak the reverb chain's volume to taste.
I'm not going to say it's faster or sounds better but it noticeably cleans up my projects and I think it focuses my workflow because I know that everything going on with that track is *in* that track
I don't have to go hunting elsewhere, and I don't have to worry about automating one parameter in the send and having it effect multiple elements - and if I want to freeze a section and get all of the sound + FX I don't have a huge routing hassle on my hands.
It is possible that I lose a bit of mix clarity doing it this way as my elements don't share a common space, but I haven't noticed my mixes coming out particularly dry or wonky in terms of different spaces going on.
I really don't miss opening up a project and seeing that it has 10 send channels all with automation

Synths(Kick+Bass+Leads+Pads) - 10 Channels
Samples(FX, Percussion) - 10 Channels
Sometimes gets to 30 but not much more than that. I usually try to combine similar sounds in the same track, like all the sweeps go into this channel, all the speech into this one, etc.
