How many cdjs?

If it a thread sorry, i tryed in seach first.
A friend told me that a dj (i prefer dont tell his name) can plays with 4 cdjs more 2 mds.
Techinal speaking sounds possible but how about the harmoniac? Is it really possible? If its real tell me plz coz i have much to learn....

In techno u have djs playing with 4-6 turntables (which is much harder than a cdj) with scratches and everything.
Btw... this is what a live PA is.

No, if a dj plays with 6 decks it's still djing, but you can call it turntablism 
To answer the original question it is possible to play with 4 cdjs, but it depends on the music. Playing 4 psy tunes at once can easilly get a bit messy, but with techno it's quite possible.

technically speaking there are 2 purposes of mixing.
the first is to go from track 1 to track 2. and the second is adding loops/voices/scratches/whatever on top of the live sound.
ususully when somone uses more then two cdj he will use two of them to make the mix, and the rest for addons. another way is to make really long mixes from cdj1 to cdj2, and then form cdj2 to cdj3 another long mix (cdj3 was beatmixes earlier) and so on and make like a series of 4 lonf mixes. then preparing the 4 cdj again, and coming back again.
to me, 3 cdjs is fun, and i use it mainly to add stuff on the live track.

At my next party Neuromotor and Hyper Frequencies are going to perform a back to back dj set with 6 decks.
I've also seen live performances at roskilde with up to 10 decks (technicx vinyl) and 5 dj's operating them simultaniously... quite a show to be honest!

may be i will sounds stupid but i say find 2 good trax and mix them well, dont be too busy on mixer and have a moment to enjoy the moment.

I think if you select the tracks very specificly that you could do wonderfull things with 3 or more decks, and find it a shame that most dj's in belgium never really experiment with this. Ofcouse, not all music is suitable for this.
I'll most certainly enquire if i can get permission to record this 6 deck set I mentioned for some of you.

One time i have seen 16 djs with 32 turntables mixing together indi, techno and acid.

yeah, we had Fred(Neuromotor) out here in November and he played on 4 cdj's. It was very good to see him have all 4 tracks going together and switch from one bassline to the next. The mix was exceptional, but like you say it makes for a very busy dj set and not alot of time for crowd interaction and taking in the whole set. I think there are definately pro's and con's, but the mix sounds very powerful if you can get it right with 4. |
