I was just curious about how long everyone takes from when they first start laying down a track til they're happy enough to consider it finished (or they give up hehe)

and do you mainly focus on one song at a time or have multiple on the go at once?

Haha and please no vague unhelpful 'a song takes as long as it takes man' answers

I must agree, I have started producing only like few months ago and few tunes I made I still do not consider them finished, but don't see any reason work on them also I have 2 projects that I got stuck with and those have to wait for me to learn more to make them sound the way I hear them in my head.

so from 2 weeks to ...

Haha bugger. I figured it would've been covered and did a search but obviously didn't look hard enough.

I remember when I started I had to learn how to use the search properly. It's definitely no google...

Tracks are gonna take as long to complete as you deem necessary. It'll probably start to take you less time as you learn more, then you'll learn that you should be spending more time on tracks so you'll take longer. You'll spend a lot of time learning things you never knew before so you have to add those steps onto your production time, but you'll also get faster at the things you have been doing that were good.

Producing is a process of learning what you don't know, which, from what I've heard, never ends. If you aren't constantly finding new ideas/tricks then you're probably getting lazy imo.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

agree with medea usually the more short the best it is for me
long time i haven t composed but usually from one (if beats samples ,presets are almost ready )to 3 days full time ,i think i never finished a track that needed more time .
if it take long time lot of different energies and influences will come complicate the flow and storie of my tracks and i dont like that , i like to catch something, like a photo, for example when going back from a good partie i m full of energie, i like to catch that in the track and it s there for only 1 or 2 days .

Yeah. When you're feeling it, just try to finish a good song.

For example : if you're composing one night, and everything is just 'coming to you' - take advantage of that and try to finish your tune, because being in that headspace is priceless.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

+ infinity

I've been working a lot lately to finding a good balance of working enough to get stuff done when I feel it and taking breaks when I'm in loopitus mode. Turning it off when you're just staring at the screen helps a lot in the long run, as does strapping yourself to your chair and cranking out goodness.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

i dont know others views but songs are never finished. the writer always sees every possible flaw there is, even if there arent any the writer knows it can be better here or there. its as stated above tracks are given up on eventually or abandoned. then when your flipping through your library you might say hey this one isnt half bad think i'll put it on the web.           http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)

Search past 7 days you might find something interesting!

It can take 1-3 days to find the sounds you want to use in a track. (online samples, various other sources.)

To write out a track and arrange it with offline processing, etc...

It could take anywhere from 2-6 weeks....Depending on how many hours per day vested into the track.          https://www.djjeto.com

i'd rather spend 6 months making 1 decent song (for 0 money) than rushing 8 bad quality songs in a week (for money).
