It depends on what is written in the contract. Some labels buy tracks at once (paying you directly to buy all rights to the recording) and some pay you with royalties from sales. The latter is usually sorted out every six months, but still, it depends on what is written in the contract..
These are among the most common deals... I hope it could help and I wish you good luck!

Sometimes you have to wait a little untill the label release the cd and starts to pay everyone .

i would be worried.
This is not a question of faith, this is business.
Advance payment is a standard procedure on buying music from artists.
Never give your music in one piece to a label before negociating advance payment.
Normaly that is the only money you'll see anyway.
Artists who give away music without a pre-agreement on advance payment are dumb, and have low self-esteem, and don't really feel that the work they develop, deserves payment.

My friend neuromith:
for me, creating music is not about business .
it's about letting the world know the message i want to give so much.
when you start to think in the money everything turns sour and the main objective starts to loose.
if u are a good composer and you are serious in your music, you most try to work just with the best labels and try to be carefull with the new ones, just that, but you can't live thinking that somebody will still your music, because like that, for sure, they will.
Let it flow in a smart way, don't be impulsive.
Think three times before giving a trak to somebody .
Still you will have to do it to let them try it in the dancefloor.
that's my advise as i have been in your shoes before.
hope you will release your track soon with no problem at all, and if u have doubts you can ask them always in a proper way.
peace and love to you from México!!! |

lol this IS how things work if you respect yourself and the music you produce.
I hate to brag, but I ALWAYS released in this manner and never had any problems, and already put out a whole CD and more then 10 tracks around diferent, respected and wellknown labels, from europe to mexico.
But hey, "dig your own hole" that's what i always say.. |
