if you want to know how live a live act is, just use the search button...

now HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A LIVE ACT is a whole new question, directed to artists, on specifically how each one plays..

I don't have a live act yet, but I play more live than many artists..

When I DJ, I usually use traktor (now deckadance). And I use live to play my guitar (threw amplitybe or my amp) and to play vst's. And I also put some of my songs in to....

Mostly I go on stage with the main idea of what I'm going to play and collect all the tracks. But I'm free to change any order or even songs on demand, so I try to carry a good variety of tracks I like with my. Then I improvise with the guitar/VST (most of the time I know the root note and play around that). If I want to play my own song generally they have a guitar and I do a little mix between what I m playing on the guitar and what I'm going to play.

On stage, as soon as I start playing one track, I load the next one and prepare it. So if anything goes wrong (pressing pause or a file load failure), the next one is right there. If I get to exited and play the guitar to the end of the track, I just have to increase the volume of the next track on my mixer and it's playing looped. Quite simple actually..

If you really want to know how live a live act can be, visit Tom Cosm's webpage ( www.cosm.co.nz ).
More live than that only a live concert but those are rare..           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

I prepare a base track (not a bass track)... and then I prepare shitloads of different sidetracks that I can combine live to form new tracks...
now basically I could just let my base track run alone, but that would imho be ripping people off, and would also be a complete waste of time           *In AjmaGard We Trust*

I think Tom Cosm is generally the exception to the rule of true live performance.

Seen Eat Static (again) some weeks ago, and they're still the most rocking electronic live band i've ever seen...
No computers, just a hardware sequencer with some synths & samplers and lot of live tweaking...

Offcourse most is pre-programmed in the hardware sequencer, but the versions are much different from the album versions...
And there's more...check it !!!

AFAIK I'm pretty sure Eat Static's live set is based on multi-track audio playback on Merv's side, with Joie doing live synths on top. I don't think any sequencers are involved at all, either in hardware or software, but if anyone has more definite info (ie. if you've spoken to them about it yourself) I'd be interested to know           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Well Colin...i really don't know, it was just a guess...
Just didn't see any computerscreen at all, but it could well be a multitrack audio playback...
But at least it doesn't look like some dull guys behind a labtop, just pressing knobs....
Seen them live several times, and they allways have completely different versions from the original, which makes it more interesting to go to....
Back in 1994 i saw them first time, and that looked more live than nowadays...
Anyways, I think they're the only electronic artists who make it look like electrock'n'roll           http://www.myspace.com/descargaelectrica

Have you ever been on a EBM Koncert?Heaps of Bands are looking like electro rock n roll..but same amount even does the whole shit with playbacks from FOH...
I´ve been a live technician..so can say that definetly..the keyboards on stage are quite often dummies just for image and stuff....           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

watched cosm video , so inspired i re-arrange my live concept. offcourse add pesonal flavour to it , but this basics are must to watch!

I saw Eat Static use a multitrack HD recorder & rack effects for live sets. Many other artists use Hd Recorders or the new Multitrack digital studios (like Roland Mv 8000), including myself
This multitrack machines are expensive but much more stable than laptops , and gives you also more options, real time midi synchronization and control....           NEW ALBUM OUT SOON !!!

What's the deal with Tom Cosm being considered the only true live artist lately?
So yea, he posted a few vids. But he is not the only one.

whats the deal... he put up alot into this movie and i enjoied it. and learn couple of things , or more accurate is that he confirm to me that it is possible to CREATE on the fly. not playing pre-mixed session.

aslo , i know oood and sonkite have great concept and also many others , but im intrested in 1 man live show. and im gonna make my own thingy defintly not copy tom cosm , exept for the basics.

lets just some it up that most artists on live CANT change even 1 sound no matter what happens .
hit spacebar.. and start drinking beer in live hehehe

beside , u have more links like that??would love to see more video's for sure.          www.sattelbattle.com
