check "the better man" @1:07

http://www.myspace.com/azax

its so massive... i would say its layered
clap with a snare. but it sounds like the
reverb is made a little bit tricky.
it sounds so open and wide, but its short
AND near.

heard the same thing in some RnB productions
and i asked myself the same questions.

cheers

you think its just the predelay? i tested
this, and i didnt get a good result.
i hear the predelay, but its very silent,
and the power of the clap/snare is constant,
that means, that its also loud before the
reverb kicks in (before predelay).           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

i think its a gated reverb..
try r-verb with a gate preset ;-)

probably better sample then yours. i second seamoon.
similar effect can sometimes be achieve with simply have another snare hit right after the "beat" one... and make it lower in volume. but it sounds different like delay.

for gated reverb you can do this:

open AUX channel (send fx)
insert reverb and gate after.
make quite big reverb.
now with the gate (c1 gate not trance choppers) play with treshold.. somewhere up there it will stop the reverb in sharp type with no envelope. make sure the gate setting realese 0.

you could try a automation to fade the verb,
for the azax track it start with a distorted clap , i would try to do the same first experiments with a plugin that let you reverse the verb or maybe a gate (or automation)or a pluging with a attack time or sidechaing the verb with the dry signal, then i would layer a 909 snare and keep only the tail of the clap with the pumping effect ,there is also doubling involved i think

don t try to hard imo it ll take more time to copy that making yours that sound as good ...
