I've becoming more and more interested in buying a pair CD decks.
But now, since I've seen what they cost, I wonder how important it really is to have such expensive decks, like the Pioneer CDJ 1000 mkII!?
What is really the difference between the above stated and a cheaper set like the Pioneer CDJ 200?
I have never did any djing stuff, but I'm very very interested in doing this now, because I believe this will maybe also give me more inspiration when producing music. |

okay i can give you the following advice:
i learn djing on a pair of totally crappy vinyldecks, which went of sync all the time, this was real manual work. and now i dont have problems with any decks, be it vinyl or cd deck. if u start, it's probably best to get the Pioneer CDJ100, because their sturdy, reliable and i guess u wont find anything below that standard at parties.
and i strongly advise against cddecks with BPM counter, because u tend to rely on it, and when you dont have them during a set, u're fucked.
just my 2 cents |

bpm counter is on many great cd decks, best thing is to ignore it ) there is nothing better than to mix traxx yourself )
djones > cdj 1000 is top cdplayer, high build quality, but you can mix and make party with pair of say cdj 100s - they are considered a standard ( what i don`t like on them is jog wheel, which could be a little more precise - but i`m used to 800s and axis 9 - just a matter of taste ) try to avoid omnitronic and similar stuff - very unreliable

What budget mixer should do the job for me?

depends on what you consider a budget mixer. a good sounding simple mixer is pioneer djm300 also a basic standard, we use djm 600 - i like it - also a standard, you can try some of the numark stuff - but not the cheapiest, also stantons are quite good for the price. much better (and more expensive) are vestax, allen & heath, rane, denon has nice products ... be carefull when considering gemini, omnitronic and so. avoid behringer

But are there any functions which are really needed on the CDJ 100 MK2 which I would be missing on the CDJ 100 decks?
All those scratch stuff etc, you don't need do you, when mixing Psytrance!?
And how about the Denon DN S 1000?
And do most nowadays CD decks have builtin realtime timestretch function? |
