It was one dusty afternoon in the south of israel, somewhere in the late, real late
90's.
i was drinking my pure black turkish coffe while listening to one of the ancient
releases by MFG.
I recall, the slightest tingles in my ears, the sugary touch on my lips as the fat full
-powered gliding entrance melody of "A new kind of world" was starting to play.
The invincible stream of goatic strongly-melodied light trance releases was not
expected to halt, not at all. we thought we were great, the best, unstoppable.
We never thought of letting go. all the parties, the good vibes, PLUR as we used
to say, filled us with a feeling of euphoria so strong that we constantly kept
recommending people to join the scene.

And then it hit me.

"Minimal" they used to call it.

I got online and soon enough i was flooded with merciless accusations and claims
that it is the end of psychedelic trance as we know it.
"Trance is dead!" papers said.
The new generation of electronic psychedelic music was evolving, and not to a
direction i liked, frankly - i detested the new trance releases.
But i did not give up. i couldn't. after i recovered the shock that actually took some
weeks to arrive, and some time to leave as well - i went to get my copy of the
"freshest" Minimal Trance release. i thought that it might take some time until i
started liking this new style, but i was wrong.
weak, pounding, monotonic spiral sounds filled the room until i finally decided to
press the pause button.

My Friend : "Hey, man, you have got to listen to this"
Me : "What? what is it?"
My Friend : "Are you ready for the change?..."

What I'm really trying to say is, that after years of listening to psychedelic
electronic music i discovered that the genre i liked the most is actually the
downtempo-chillaxed-blurry one.

Plus, i wanted to thank you all guys for the names and recommendations you
throw out here in the forum, for they have been helpful and encouraging (:

You can ban this thread, mark it off-topic, delete it or make it a "How did YOU
discover chill-out" kind of thing, as far as i'm concerned.
Just wanted to share some experience.
