hi dudes, i have a special question for my actual production:
my kick and bass is faaat, superfat. maybe a bit too fat. i want to make it more creamy, like honey. not so hard, a little bit more soft. i tried to eq it, compress it. nothing satisfied... even transient designer doesnt makes the softness i want.
where is the trouble?
any ideas...?

Ways to make a kick less sharp (assuming you're building it from scratch):
-Reduce amount of filter envelope.
-Cut back on the resonance on the filter.
-Increase attack on amp envelope.
Increasing attack on the filter envelope will make it 'chirp' some, which may help a bit but not much.
Hope that helps. |

take a bell filter with really high "q" and sweep till u find the frequency that produces the "click" in the kick .... then maybe just widen the "q" setting a little and cut those frequencies , that should make your kick sounds "softer"............ |

*take EQ and cut the most distured freq.
try this:
1.take waves eq 1-10 band
2.take the gain to the max leval(in waves 18.0 is the max)
3.go to the Q section and write 50.0
4.start to find the most distured freq by move the band up from the low freq, whan you have dist so this is the bad freq
5.start to cut this freq slowly(gain goes down if it stop's in 14.0 so cut it to -4)
6.and than opan the Q to 35.0
*put an FX like filter on your kick.
try this:
take classic filter and reset the filter on hp mode this will cut your low freq

if this was mine I would pitch shift it -3 semitones. there is a lot of energy at around 70-80 hz which is something that you might not want. then try trimming the first 2 ms of the kick sample so you get rid of that clicky part. of course follow what the other ppl have mentioned above.

Try this one
---Bass---
to this process you need 2 filters
filter 1:
reset the filter on LP mode and start to cut the high with the freq knob
filter 2:
reset the filter on HP mode and start to cut the low with the freq knob (put 6-4.000 reso)
---Kick---
find the most disturb freq and cut (the first part of my answer).
classic auto-filter.Kjaerhus is the perfect tool for this process.
if you want to download this filter and read about his
Features go to http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-auto-filter.php
Good Luck

again if this was mine i will just leave the kick as it is, but i will remove some unwanted frequencies from the bassline,
which i believe these are the reason that create your need to make your kick sound different...
most of the replies above are explained good in how to do it...
also like triplex said, u can remove the clicky part of the kick again with some filter or even with some eq...
anyways, i like the kick as it is!
fix the bassline a little and u got your self a nice combination of the 2

Use two instances of the filter as inserts?? Or can you achieve both filters on one instance of vsti?

Metrolab-it's not the same effect
to use the vsti filter is allways good is the best that what I allways do But...
the classic filter is diffrend whan you reset the filter on HP mode he cut auto the low freq and this give you more clearly sound and more space in your mix
thare are many why's to make a good sound
