Hi there !

I would like to know

How usually do you guys start a track ?

A- With a nice intro, in order to start feeling the groove an see where the track may go...

B- Or right away with kick and bass, in order to set the sound and base of the track..

I really like to start with intro and all that, so then I can get inspired on where the track may go...

There are lots of people who start with kick and bass, which I dont like that way to much, but can be very useful...

Cheers to all the boomers all over!

I don't like to start with the intro. I mean of course after you wrote the intro, you have a direction where your track is going. But i allways had the problem that I proceed working on the track and after 3 or 4 minutes, I'm running out of ideas.

Now I do it like that: I start with the Beat, when everything sounds nice I'm going to write a melody or some nice fx, whatever i like to. The goal is that I start with the end, the peak of the track. On this part i spend most of the time, I sit so long on this part, till everything fits.

After that you can proceed with the other parts of the track. You can take the same synths but played on other notes, different automations etc... With the Intro, I finish my track           http://soundcloud.com/catweazle-psytrance-music

i like to start by a simple intro and to work on it later with adding some samples and synhs used in the track ,but first i get a beat loop/bassline ready ,i do all the drums tuning ,processing ,getting the bassline right...all that is a real pain in the ass and take me almost one afternoon just to get a beat ready .i don t like to mix that with making music ,it kill my creativity .
depends the tracks but often after that i work on a loop adding lot of synths line , like 3 on 3 different octaves playing on top of each other for example and then use these synths line to do the progression to the loop i just made, that way i get the first few minutes of the tracks with making the synths answer to each others, audio edting ,breaks..it s more a workflow that i like for full on, it s limiting you but that a good thing sometimes

have you tried to work on many tracks at same time? work good for me, when no more idea i just move to some minimal or other psytrance tracks working on 2 or 3 tracks at same time.

Lately I've been finishing tracks 2 at a time. You can move ahead on one when you get stuck with the other. I think I've got about 5 works in progress right now. Producing a few different styles helps a lot too.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

i try to do my first own track since about 3 months now.
everything i got you can hear at my soundcloud profile.
im happy with bass & percs... but i dont know where to go... tried lots of melodies, some vocals, samples anything on wich i can build up my track... nothing seems to fit.
most of the time i get stucked with the bassline, because any change of the key sounds boring or overused. im not able to do a intro without the big lead...

atm im really burned out... it seems i never will finish my track, but i dont want to start new tracks... everyone keep saying how important finishing tracks is. i agree, because i also got some old unfinished things...

i thought of taking some harmoical-music hours from a teacher... but it seems it isnt only my lack in music theory. so i read some songwriting guides wich are not useable for psy... and in the end you will need this big fat lead... i dont want to make this one-note-bassline-only psy, i want some feeling in it too, at least at one part in the track there should be some emotions.

im intrested in other music for sure, but there are not such nice forums to learn the genre like isratrance ^^ most things i can do by just hearing, but especially the bass, kick , lead stuff is different when it comes to mixing... wich i dont get... in some music there seems to be no bass, the bass comes frome the leads or something... sure... sidechain helps, but it seems there is more to it.

maybe ill give up and start a new project and come back later

I often begin with kick and bass everything follows later.
Often I just play with scale and begin with that-like recording a session of piano to metronom.
For me the hardest part in my psytrance production was and is to make an intro.
The more a track contains the harder it gets to make sth that harmonize with my whole track and is not boring standard sth.
The end is no prob for example. An interesting end.But intro is sth I should train to get this habit as a begin of each track I guess.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

maybe this helps for intros:
Tips-For-Song-Writing--INTRO

The Intro (introduction) is the first thing your listener will hear. It should be catchy and interesting. It might consist of chords from the CHORUS and an interesting guitar or keyboard lick. The reasoning behind making the chords the same as the CHORUS is that when the listener hears the chorus, it will sound familiar. People like things that are familiar.

The catchy little intro "lick" should be something that the listener will remember. Ideally, as soon as someone hears this lick, they will be able to identify the song. Think of the intro to "Smoke on the Water" or "Dream On". A good intro lick will become your song's "calling card".

This catchy lick is called a "hook", meaning that it "hooks" the ear of the listener. A hook is usually repeated at some time during the song and may be a line of lyric as well as a musical lick or riff. Many songs have more than one hook.           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

I've also started a track from just playing around with samples or a new synth that I got- one of those, hey this sound is cool, better start a track around it.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
