nope.
when its nothing about him in a personal way, i absolutely dont think thats egomaniac.

you are just true and objective. and the friend should be thankful for that

it is personal about and by using such language its dumb and not helpful..
Some agruments of how he can improve would be more appropriate imo.
Also that touches always since creating music is something very personal always intimate you realease a bit of your soul so it touches the heart in not a kind way when saying hey your music sucks my friend..
There is also no objective. But I feel and know what you mean.
That is my opinion. Peace

Easiest way Ive found, is to sandwich what you don't like between compliments.

Compliment what you like
Explain what you don't like
Compliment again.

First off I laugh out loud at work as soon as I saw the topic title...

In regard to Product_Placement's quote; I find that this is something that I use on a regular basis. It's great because what needs to be said is said but the person is much more aware that you are not trying to be harsh with them, only honest.

If you have 2 positive comments sandwiching a possibly negative one, then the negative one tastes much better. I think people are more receptive to this kind of criticism.

well my ``sound`` sucks i dont need no one to tell me that, but is slightly better than it was sometime ago, and in the future it will be real good           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

depends on taste
but there are two things, musicality and the technical part

so about musicality is up to taste and isnt much matter imho, cause its each ones feelings ( you can call it cheesy, grave trance, new subgenre etc etc )

About technical aspect, mixing, gravity you can be as much objective as you can and dont care at all, and again this goes with the experience, you must have experience and knowledge and confidence on what you listen
I think that you must be ready/capable to do what your suggestion points the other person to do - for making something better in terms of improvement -

how many times youve found a great track with bad mixing and how many the most boring/generic with nothing special with "cutting-edge" " crystal clear" mixing etc etc ??
