Hey guys,
I always start a Track with looping a bar, making bassline, EQ it, process it, make some groovy hats and snares on it and some arp and trance lines... so i go to ~3 minutes and make the break and the mainpart of the Track.
When do you start mixing? do you arrange the bars (tracks?) first without any cutoff automation (or something similar), or do you mix when you arrange?
I think its a failure to mix when you arrange, but i dont know any other technique..
Sry for my english i hope you understand me

I compose, arrange and mix on the fly... nothing wrong with that. There's no right or wrong when it comes to creating music.

You are beautiful, no matter what they say! |

I also compose, produce and mix all at the same time. In fact, I don't have separate words for it. To me, it's all composing. Arrangement, Sound Design, Mixing, these are all subsets of the overall activity which is Composing. I even consider, brace yourself, Mastering as an inherent part of the Composition.
Good luck |

Yes, nice idea, the workflow should be more efficient but do you put in the name infos about BPM, type and chord?

I tend to do very rough mixing while I'm creating material.
usually I will create material and mix/arrange in different sessions.
One night all I will do is make loops - leads, FX, percussion, etc. I will just keep building up until things get full and then move on, with only a basic amount of arrangement.
Then I go back a few days later and tweak sounds (EQ/compression), move things around, and delete the bad stuff.
That few days break really helps me stay honest about what is good and what is not. |
