Right here is my question or rather some ideas on this particular topic.

i see almost every second thread in this forum of isratrance is somthign along the lines of.....

"How do you make a sound like...(stick in your favourite trance artists name here)...on..(put name of track you want to sound like here)."

now this is all well and fine wanting to sound pro, or you like a paricular sound in someones track....but or rather i ask

Would you prefer sounding like your favourite trance artist OR sound orginal and build a sound of your own?

maybe this is a silly question but from the amount of "how do you make this sound" threads i get the feeling that there is alot of people who just want to sound like other people....

thoughts please....

You have to put things in perspective really.
Most people that come on here are people that are starting off, or just got a computer set up for music and are about to start making tunes.
It's like when you get your first guitar, saxophone...etc. You start off learning the notes, then play some simple tunes from your favourite artists, then learn some scales/chords, then learn to play some harder tunes and start learning to play some solos, then learn every minor and major scale and start playing your favourites artists' tunes/solos and maybe improvise a bit and throw a couple variations in, and then start improvising completely on your own, discovering uncharted territory on your musical endeavours.

the reason Dance music keeps evolving, and sound better and better, production keeps getting higher, etc. is because people feed off each other, learn from each other and grow. if every single producer lived in a bubble, todays music wouldnt be that hot. if u learn how to create sounds, yours won't sound exactly lke other's sounds and you can then take that knowledge and take the sound 1 step further. Also, why not tell people not to use kick drums, claps, hi hats, etc ? THey all are "the same" right?
Its just sounds, how you turn them into music makes you an artist. I wouldn't worry about it. Plus the more people imitate a sound, the quicker the people get bored of it and the artists strive for new sounds. It all works out if you ask me.

i recommend a book on sound design for those who want to imitate...

its not easy, and judging by the answers that those people that ask how a certain sound is made, there is not enough indepth info provided to make the sound they want....

i think one has to have been around synths and sounds for a while before one can even start to imitate...

sound designers can imitate cause they know the fundamentals of synthezising... and they have a critical ear.
Knowledge, anaylysis and experience is the only way to tell how a sound is build...

a critcal ear is the foremost thing...

if you ask me, i rather create my own orginal sounds, but of course sometimes i hear a sound which i think is very nice, but often i hear them on tv and i dont have time to analyse them enough to imitate....

sounds can be very complex so i takes lots of knowledge....

what im saying is that even how hard a person wants a sound, they need to work real hard to get it...

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul04/articles/synthsecrets.htm

here they explain how u can build a sound from scratch in such a way that u can reach the sound u want...

But new era scientist is right, u need lots of experience with synths before u can start building a sound u want from scratch. I have had some succesfull attempts and some failed attempts, but if u can turn the failed attempt into something that sounds as goed as the sound u had in mind it's not entirely failed in fact, i find lot's of interesting sounds like that...

I start with a cleaned out patch too... Open up the filters, stop all modulation, close all but the first oscillator and put the envelopes in gate mode... And then i start building... But most of the time i do have an idea of what kind of sound i want to make, i don't just start and twiddle untill i have a sound i like (really time-consuming i think, and a hit-and-miss affair too). I like to know what i'm doing... And the article i posted is a great article to put u in the right mindframe to do just that.

sounds to me like this guitarist figured it all out by himself then...great job! ... good future lies ahead of him.

bottom line, if you are really passionate about music creation, you will know what to do. like going to study audio enginering(if you want to produce electronic music) and learning some basic music theory at least. maybe learn how to play an instrament(keyboard synth would obviously be best in psy-trance). this will always help alot. practice practice PRACTICE those skills. no matter how long it takes. it will pay off in the end. you`ll develope your own origenal sound forsure.

ones you have reached this level, it would actually be better to ask questions like `how can i make the sound from that track`...chances are you`ll know how to do it anyway and then really take it that exstra mile and turn it into something better.

anyway, my 2c`s worth...use it, don`t use it... up to you
