hello to all my fellow forum members, I am excited and pumped to find this forum a few months ago with effort i found many ways to better my production skills which i think is invaluable i [thank you] all members of this forum for sharing the knowledge and supporting the newbies and to the growth of psytrance.
i am having difficulty with introducing or adding new sounds and make the track interesting
my question simplified
how do i know when the track needs a new sound(fx,stabs and synth bits)
(i know you should introduce new sound very 4,8,16 and 32 bars)
although many posts relates to this .....i would like to know about this in depth.
i created this track out of the blue but couldn't go further or keep it interesting(have no glue of the genre of the track)

p.s fellow members who have adhd, how long do you usually take to complete the track also ....how do you get inspired to start a track of something great.

carefully listen to any trak u like.. and there is no 'should' or 'shouldn't'.. first you can try to implement ideas you heard in a trak to understand.. peace

lol what jeeboomba said is true but i assume you already are trying that - who wouldn't?
when i start a tune at what i'll call "stage 1", i usually have a pretty good idea of what i want the 'main groove' to sound like... maybe just the bassline, or a percussion/bass/melody combo, or whatever. so i'll make that up and probably add a few fx or pads and maybe a lead or two... but i often get stuck there.
at this point "stage 2", i recommend emptying your mind of your preconceptions about your tune, and just listening to it. imagine in your head what should come in next: what one-shot with a bunch of delay would sound totally mind-bending right there? what lead would sound cool, and how would it be brought in?
write down your ideas even. then, once you have all these ideas, you find yourself back at "stage 1" which is kind of cool: now all you have to do is practice your sound design skills to make those ideas come to life.
and when you get stuck again... just sit back, relax, enjoy some tea or some herb if you like, and let those ideas free flow back to you. this is how you keep that 'flow' - it's like your right-brain/creative side is having a conversation with your song, and deciding where to go next. then, when you've got your ideas, your left brain/analytical side takes over and you sculpt your sound.
honestly, if i used my own system more often i would finish so many more tunes. fuck loopitis.

thats what i also think: experience most important.
at one point the kb is ok enough but then it starts, any little new sound you put in makes a difference and can take the track almost automatically somewhere to some direction if you dont take care,
can be ok but done without recognising it, tracks will be 2 much the same and you will bore yourself, flow will leave you.
experience means recognising these directions and gives options for real choices, and its not about thinking about the music or the track its more about some kind of musical logic, scales can help but same scale sounds can differ a lot. and yes its about new ideas. not as law or so but copycatting makes it a dead thing. i hope to come over some block here. takes time i guess and patience. flow is all. ok enough bs from here. cheerz

u can follow the formula, there s a formula in psytrance in general ( mainly in full on and maybe nowadays u can say the same from DARK TRANCE ) and those formula usualy teaches to keep the :flow: and prob 75 per cent of the tracks are based on this formula... but nobody will give u the formula if u ask here.... u gotta meet someone who likes u a lot and already produce psytrance and that person would give u the 'secrets" ...and it consist in specific designed sounds in the synth, specif FXs to fill ur tracks, Specifics track structure etc
or u can create ur own, but it ll take MANY MANY TIME AND PRACTICE and a lot of DANCE FLOOR and a LOT OF HEARIN , lot of creativity in the head and a lot of patience coz in the middle of the process u ll think u are gettin nowhere coz u are creatin from zero...
thats my opinion about the flow...
or u try to learn the formula from someone , or u create ur own structure...

indeed.
many... maaany time.
The key is to guide listeners atention which is pretty disperse... new things must entertain ear and mind all time and tension must be created and release in original hard to master ways. |

Wen it starts to get boring, change something, a synth, a rhythm intrude new sounds, stop everything and start with a new idea (i mean a break) that complements the story.
Wen using sweeps and fxs you should listen to the rhythm of your track, sweeps usually are used to introduce something, a break, a new pattern etc. Fxs are a decorative add on dont exaggerate on the use of them, if it doesent make sence dont use (ad rhythm, create ambient, startle, build ups are good reasons to use them)
No rules here, i think the only rule applicable is IF IT SOUNDS GOOD THEN ITS GOOD!
Cheers!
