one trick for me is, i think every element could be a standalone attraction.
lets say i have a boring short synth sound...
i could add a long reverb, bounce this, and pan/"trance-gate"/pitchshift just the reverb, then reverse this, cut it etc... now you have rithm (trance gate), atmo (reverb), nice fade in (reversed reverb) and the list goes on.
trying this kind of work for every element will make the track awesome intresting... problem is, thats its very timeconsuming... because there is alot try and error etc... but when someone listenes to your track, waiting for the big lead, and NO, it dont comes just with a cutoff automation but alot of other stuff in, it will make it interesting, also for yourself after a long time you will think "WTF did i do there haha, this sounds awesome"
this is just the experience of my first track... it seems like i got a littlebit lazy at my second, but i just noticed this after i finished it. and you also will notice it, if you compare those two.
in short: "LOVE" IN DETAIL

its a different high..
yeh, things come by natural but often, ur natural is not good XD
the answer: work ur ass off until the natural gets synchronized with ur idea of "good"
