Today I first time "collabed" (not sure if to call it real collab,it was kinda like silly stuff ).

Three of us had different levels of production and production standarts, very different approach to music, different level of control over DAW,and so on and so on..

How do you do it?We ended up redoing each other parts or something like that

What is your idea of collabing?Do you have some ground rules who does what, how do you decide when to switch or work together?           From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

When I'm working with my friend, we make every decision together.

Examples:
- If he have a kick that fits better than the ones I have, we use his.
- Maybe, he starts making a sound and then I edit it some more, add more fx's, etc.
- If I been controlling the computer for some time and I get tired, he then takes control.
etc. etc. etc...

I don't know, it just flow's naturally. Whatever we think that sounds better is what we use in the track.

I guess everyone have a different method of collaborating, this is just the one that works best for us.

Hope this helps!!

I do remote collabing:

One of us starts the project, then sends it to the other guy, he tweaks and adds for a few days, then send it back, I tweak and add for a few days, then send it back, etc...

By striving to create a sound that represents the two of you (of however many of you) TOGETHER, you can avoid redoing each other parts. Because if you are redoing the other guy's stuff too much then it will only represent you, which is not a collaboration.

and Bipolar said the key word. Patience is crucial in all aspects of everything and collabing is no exception. give what you can and take what you need.           --

I only collab with people that I know personally. can do it close or remotely.

there are people that say they want to colab.. but they do not take it seriously. they just want to be on the studio drinking and doing silly things..... finishing tracks take forever.
