I think the bpm reinforces harmonics of brain waves. I read somewhere that 137 bpm is the most danceable coz of 1. the human dancers average agilities, but also 2. this reinforces the theta brain waves (trance / daydream) which are about 2-3Hz. i.e. 120 bpm = 2 hz, 180 bpm = 3 hz.
I think its something like that or other. |

I dont really see the need in pushing BPMS up and up.
Theres far more skill involved in making a track sound faster using the percussion and other elements than just raising the bpm.
I like to work around 138-142. |

Now to the question. For all the producers out there: When you sit down to make a tune, how do you decide what's gonna be the tempo for the track? I mean I know it depends on the style and atitude of the track you wanna make, or maybe even just the way a person feels at the moment. What I'm saying is, let's say you're making a full on track, what makes you decide to make it at 144 and not 145? Is there someone who deliberately makes it at 144.2?

if you want your track to sound more groovy, make it at about 140, they will sound better when pitched up by a dj
i make most of the tracks at 150 since a friend of mine has prerendered tracks of his own at 150, but i prefer 142-146 myself, 150 is a bit too much. the exact tempo varies with the overall sound and feeling of each track.

I'm one those who makes every track an imprecise number(like 146.312 eheh) just to make life harder to the dj's. Yes, I don't like them. |

i think you wrong bru, the optium trance-state bpm is 145bpm/...i think its the alpha brain waves, not the theta....
your difference bewteen 120 - 2hz and 180 - 3hz seems a bit messed up as well, which would be somthing like 0.06Hz per bpm, which just doesnt seem right at all...
i do know tho....the magic bpm is 145

possible that its alpha from memory of that article, but then I thought about it & am not sure as alpha waves r much higher in frequency. sometyhing like 20 times higher. so could'nt really understand that.
But look dude all I meant is that Iv seen references on these two topics. 1. how fast the average dancer bops, & that trance bpms reinforce brain wave states. I cant really say anything else coz I cant remember. @ the same time I googled optimum bpm dance music & didnt get much results. checked up on what there was, but there was nothing like I remember reading so maybe the stuff I read was crap anyway. who knows.
I apologise for sounding authoritative. was only suggestive. |

I usually start making a track witha rough idea of the tempo then end up changing it at a later time when the track has taken more shape. It is amazing how much difference a change of just 1 or 2bpm makes! |

I choose the BPM for My tracks by the mood Im in.
In a god mood I will make my track in 142-146. In a bad mood I will go faster or down to 138 to release my temper.
  love love love........ |

The older I grow the less the BPMs.
Done tunes in 160 in my d'n'b days. Done tunes in 145 in my full-on days.
Now it's all about 132 BPM rolling 4/4, breakbeats.
