Ok i've tried searching for something similar between the threads, but no luck. If someone could point me to something useful, i'd apreciate that very much.

Now to the question. For all the producers out there: When you sit down to make a tune, how do you decide what's gonna be the tempo for the track? I mean I know it depends on the style and atitude of the track you wanna make, or maybe even just the way a person feels at the moment. What I'm saying is, let's say you're making a full on track, what makes you decide to make it at 144 and not 145? Is there someone who deliberately makes it at 144.2?

I'm asking this from a djiing perspective. When you make your tracks do you think about them being used in a set? Do you ever try to adapt them for this?

If all of this has been discussed already, i'd really love for someone to point me in the right direction.

do what sounds right!!

you can tap out the beat and get the BPM that way.

or put 4 beats on repeat, and adjust the BPM till you hear what you feel is a good rate.

Well .. Interesting question .

If im working with someone (Tech/Dark - Never fullon) i like working 140-142 .
Now im working on a new project by my self 146 Bpm (Like it massive/Deep beat on the high way road) . I think that the classic one is 145 But again .. Never argemant with my track partners for me all is right , All styles , All speeds , Evrything ! Realy dont care , Changes allways makes all being more & more curious .

Tempo not mater at all its a very littel "prob" over doing this . There a tracks that on 137 and sound like 140 .

Ok so when u come to set the tempo in cubase (or whatever u use), what makes u set it to 146 and not 145 for example, or is it something you don't really give much thought to?           "Just as every skill is strengthened by practice, so is every bad habit made worse by repetition."

For me its just a feeling ..
But got some friends im working with that liket a one size of style (They own one) Then when its go slow (And some times even for me) im trying put more up metal/atmosphiric elemant to creat an illution of being more fast , There is alots of thechnix what to do and how . Dont think that the tempo is the prob here , All can happen or heard on any speed .

its simple...mess around until you find somthing that sounds right...

and again...

i made once a track that is 155bpm , that when i asked friends what they thought the bpm was , they reckoned it was aroud 148, and when i told them it was 155 , they say no way...

its all about how you mix the track elements , and struture your bass and beats , that drives the track, you can have a 130 bpm track make make it sound quicker, using rolling basses and running hats and those sorta things.,....

so in short...as always ..EXPERIMENT....there are no rules to follow.           I dont do the drugs....I AM the drugs

Ok i think you guys misunderstood me a bit. I'm not producing anything. I'm asking this from a djiing perspective (not that i'm a dj, just starting out). What i wanted to know is the producers opinions on HOW they choose the tempo for their track. Also how many of you make tracks with the tempo changing in the middle of the track, or tempo speeds that are not whole numbers (134.23 for example ). Again all of this is from a djiing perspective, to see if the people making the music think about how and when their tracks are gonna be played.           "Just as every skill is strengthened by practice, so is every bad habit made worse by repetition."

i don't like changing tempo in the middle of tracks (unless i wan't to increase the tempo during a buildup like sirius isness do). changing tempo makes it harder to mix.
i like to use whole number tempos. i produce morning\night full on from 145bpm to 150bpm. 145 if for the more calm tracks, 147 for more agressive tracks and 150 only for special things. i don't really need to increase my BPM much cause my hihat loops make my tracks sound really fast... good hihat loops and short bassline notes will make the track sound faster.
the number doesn't really matter

Do what feels right...

If you start up with some loop going on there,
then you should test it with few bpm speeds. That is if you'r not sure which bpm to set yet to tell what feels right. I dont think that there is anyone who deliberately makes his track with 144.x bpm.

what does it matter if the bpm is 143 or 143.25?
if the track is steady on that bpm, its that bpm and your ears wont know the diffrence... the only ones you are doing a disservice to are dj's by not giving whole # bpms and making their lives slightly harder.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

i do not think about adopting it for a dj and i don't like 95% of full on music.
it's already too much for me all these standards of 4/4 beat... high quality production... clear sounds, laborious pre-mastering...

anyway it's all about your feeling of it.
130-135 is quit enough for a trippy track (the very rare producer imho can make it well with 140-145 bpm).
it's even better to say not "enough" but optimum cause it's more pleasant to trip dancing to some beat close to your heartbeat, isn't it?

take it to 200bpm and start taking it down without looking on the numbers.. when it feels right its great

usualy between 120-170 depend what style.. mostly fast for breaks around 140-150 for trance and 120-130 for electro chill..

if i make a loop im testing it with different tempo between 128-140 sometimes a little bit higher and it usualy sounds best for when its on 134 or 136

the djs will know what to do with the bpm im not thinking of it
if it sounds good than its the correct bpm           http://www.o-zen.com/art/ranal
