How do you arrange your drum samples?

I'm using Kontakt, and for kicks I usually load in as many as it can handle (not assinged to different keys) and then, whilst the track is playing, I mute/unmute the kick samples to see which is working the best (which i always then change later!)

If I then add my own hats, I do the same: load up Kontakt with a selection of hats and do the same.

I have the feeling this is not the most efficient method of using Kontakt but if i want to try lots of different drum samples in a track it seems to work.

It gets more complex if i then want to add more perc sounds -

So, I'm interested in how producers here arrange their drum samples when working on a track.

Right now i have a badly organized library...
i need to make new arrangements for it. also i have alot of sampletank drumkits, i bought a large one last christmas... im thinking of exporting all these kits to audio.

I use Dr008 pretty much, i use one pad for kick drum and replace if i change my mind(which also happens alot), though sometimes i have done like you, importing a few kickdrums and play around... it depends.. sometimes i know more about how i want the drums to be in first place..

i think that sorting all drum samples and make kits of them makes it easier to keep a tuned drum kit... and i mean like choosing only the best samples you find. and dont have a pile of not so good sounding samples occupie the harddrive.

so im thinking of making more own drumkits,
easy too load a few kits and play around... in stead of looking for single samples...
at least when composing...

just a idea...

Nice topic!

I just moved to Cubase SX from FL so i'm still trying to figure out what's the best way to work with drums..

So far i have a separate audio channel for each sound..Then their sent to a a group channel, for example snare's in one group hats in another, where i apply compression & eq..

I am arranging just audio samples instead of going through a sampler..Its a little complicated at first but its better when you want to tweak just one sound at one point, you know where to find it..

I know i could do offline processing on the samples but i wait until the track is halfway through for that in case i change my mind..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic
