how do u like artist's album?
do u like it totaly sticking to one style or would u prefer a hybrid album containing varius styles like trance, chill, psy, ethno-trance and non-psy electronic stuff?
i'm talking about home listenners more than a DJ tool playable on a party situation

I like the album to be good
I prefer the ones that tell a story, build up, evolve. Not necessarily multiple styles, but a theme or a connecting thread are good.
Lots of time I love the last track to be more mellow, almost chillout (Reefer Decree with 97bpm 'Time Drop' for example).

I'm with karnaf here.
The last track doesn't have to be chillout, imo chillout should be somewhere in the middle and the last one should give a taste for more.

Or maybe even better! Just a chill out CD?
I have listened to a lot of CD's where the artist in the end put a chillout track in... and in my frank opinion it does not work...why? Because the rest of the CD is much faster and frankly because I haven't heard that many acts that are good at making chill-out. Like it or not.... I see many of the chill-out attempts to be an attempt to appear more mature and "hip". I agree that a CD should have a story or a "red thread" but to put a chill-out track in the end of a CD where 90% is fast full-on or groovy progressive just dont make the "story" better. There are of course exception and they are very good - BUT rare!

One of the best constructed trance albums i've heard is Necton's Children of the Noisy Village. |

Younger Brother's A FLock Of Bleeps is a perfect example of a perfect album..

KoxBox/Saiko-Pod have also made some really great albums. Well built and constantly evolving.
Not to forget Ticons "Aero" from this year, that imho really made them stand out on the progressive scene, with a lot of different styles on the same album.

I like it mixed and creative .. not just 9 tracks filling the plastic where only 2 tracks stand out ..
my favourite listening albums are...
Saikopod - Phutures And Options
Trancefeld - Party Center 800
Ticon - Aero
Vibrasphere - Echo / Lime Structures
and as EP said , some trance albums contain very weak chill-out tracks ... cause they think it's trendy .
I also like professional graphics on the album cover , or at least not cheap and typical ... sometimes , even if the music is good , I refuse to buy it due to the sad presentation . |

how do yu know then that the music is good? you don't download music, do you? anyways good music compensates on bad artwork..

best albums are for sure those that have an idea behind them, and not just another compilation of tracks that all happend to be from the same guy.
if i buy an artist cd, i really want to be able to hear it like one (an artist cd) and not just for play in parties. |

I am very fond of mixed albums like Space Cat's first album which is my all time fav. album.
Both Hallucinogen albums are mixed as well and they build a certain story with the continuality of the music. I like the transitions as much as i like the tracks themselves. Also variation is very welcome thing. Artists like Ticon and Younger Brother showed much diversity in their last albums. Also the last Chill out numbers are very nice especially if they are done well. Also hidden track is very nice like in the end of Hallucinogen's Twisted or in the end of Pigs in Space album. Unfortunatelly not much Psy artists plant those on their albums.

well yeah I download music :-p ... if i'm not sure the album is worth purchasing , mostly I order cd's because I'm satisfied just by listening to the samples ...
please don't start with another mpeg discussion ... good artists mostly don't suffer from the download hype , and I really mean GOOD ! there is to many silly homemade trance coming out these days
