. I was using the quadrafuzz - put it on kicks, drums, evrything! but it was just a fad.
but to be fair you can bring out the high mid with it and it sounds very nice but not sure about the effect it has on the bass.
Im getting the idea that the bass needs to as pure as possible so as to let those long waveforms run true with the PA.

i think the same - qudrafuzz is making the mid range of bass sounds good but destroyies the lower range.

Leave some harmonics around 1'000/2'000 (depending where your fundamental is. Use your ears)
Lower a bit between 500/1000, while listening to your entire mix, to get things right.
Have fun!

FM synthesis
May not work if you want the fullon bass, though.

we just discussed this over on psyforum - heres the link

theres an indepth analysis in to how the qfuzz changes the bass wave.
I came to conlusion that qfuzz is good for some instruments and not on others. on the vb1 it works a treat but not so for other instruments like trilogy for example.
after three years out its back to vb1 for me.....

If you use a high-quality spectrum analyser you can have a good stab at balancing the sub with the upper harmonics by making the fundamental of the bassline the same level as the first harmonic.

just to be sure abt your remark: lets say my basslinenotes are on d1 so 72 Hz.
then you advice to put the 144 Hz on the same output level as the 72 Hz?. by eq-down the fundamental?
(by the way voxengo SPAN is a free spectrum analyzer and pretty ok, )

I disagree... Quadrafuzz works great on Trilogy for me (and after 3 yrs of using VB1... Im using it less and using Trilogy more)
hehe.. Each to their own I guess

@MonasticSquid
Do you have some presets from Trilogy?
I checked some of the presets and nothing groundbreaking there.

In me latest track I'm using Trilogy with just a little hint of quadra on it ... and it's sounding good I recon!
The psy-forum thread of the same title has also been very good (for those of you who are members)

This is actually a hint that gave me Dean Zigoris- Onnomon. (Hi Dean).
To use the SubBass plugin that comes with Logic Audio for that subsonic bass depth, also, I love adding the crysonic Spectralive to add even more bass depth.
Hope it helps. |
