Leave some harmonics around 1'000/2'000 (depending where your fundamental is. Use your ears)
Lower a bit between 500/1000, while listening to your entire mix, to get things right.
Have fun!

huh?
even if so, it doesn't change the fact that it sounds good on basslines.
anyway - there is no rulebook. it all depends on what you have and what you're trying to acheive. I never use the same kind of processing on 2 different basslines.

A lot of people seems to like using quadrafuzz on their basslines, so I tried to use it. But I can´t seem to get anything nice out of it, it is always clipping og sounding very strange.... could someone please help me figuring out how to set it up for a nice fat fullon bassline?
Thanx...

mmmmm yes. I was using the quadrafuzz - put it on kicks, drums, evrything! but it was just a fad.
but to be fair you can bring out the high mid with it and it sounds very nice but not sure about the effect it has on the bass.
Im getting the idea that the bass needs to as pure as possible so as to let those long waveforms run true with the PA.
my fad at the moment is using Cronox v.1 (or 2) with no fx/eg or comp. just a limiter to sustain the level. seems to be working nicely ...so far.
though i think most importantly the bass has to sit well with the kick. so if you have a full bass you need a full kick too.

very small adjustments..... make the difference, i know its a Dist. unit.... but try and view it like an eq ~ and use it to sculpt the sound rather than just boosting/distorting it.... a quick guide (im at work so can not see it.. but from memory)
.. just to get u started....
open @ default,
low = 0db
mid low= +1.0db
mid high = -2.0db
high = -4db
input = -4.0db
output = +3.0db
open the edit.... and if u wanna be really snazzy ~ reset the 'ranges' based on the key of your track..... so if its in A (110hz)'ish
set it something like......0-110hz / 110 - 440hz / 440-1760hz etc (hard to say from memory.... its along these lines... but trust in your ears..... as u move these values around, u can hear the change in the sound...... this is a rough guide - ultimatley u gotta 'see with your ears.. and not your eyes' (type Pseudo-Philosophical-balloney) statement
Finally, roll the Bass off approx 50hz so it sits above the Kik (if u want that type of MidPunch bass sound) ... adjust to suit the requirements of the track.....
...thats roughly how i do it... sounds not bad... but each bass in each track always requires invidual tweaking... so no hard fast rules im afraid

Find the right patch. and for heaven's sake do not HPF anywhere above 30-40 hz (and preferably 24db/oct). Get it to sit in the mix with level and _maybe_ light compression. There's enough psy out there that lacks real sub power.

The thing is that it's hard to get a bass with sub power sounding right without the knowledge and the proper monitors. So in the meanwhile, I suggest that you should use a HPF until you know better.
