Use whatever lead YOU like!!
The lead you want is really easy to make. From the list of VST's you got I would choose sylenth as my weapon for this lead.
The lead is basically just a saw with pitch and cutoff modulation.

There is a very popular tutorial for it here:
http://dancemidisamples.com/making-a-psytrance-lead.html

In the tut he uses V-station, but it can easily be "translated" to sylenth1...

Is not as overused as electric guitar in metal... just use it again, we love squelchy shit.

Also, many variations can occur by tweaking basic sound.

Oh YEAH!!!!!!!

One way to make squelchy sounds:
Boost knobs until it squeaks, for example have a filter with a very high resonance, an EQ with high gain values, a delay or chorus or flanger with a lot of feedback, and then apply compression to lower the gain. Like this you can have very irritating sounds, but at a normal and controlled level.
This is just the squeak part, you still need to take care of the sound and compose the notes, but this trick you can help you achieve your goal.           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

Haha,woops.. yeah usually I do, but when I saw "check the mother of all leads" and a link i skiped on because I thourght you linked to the mother of all leads..
Anyways, only the link was a repeat, I skipped the part about trying to deside for the guy which sounds to
use and which not to..

the cheese master lead ,it haven t aged well imo...vanguard can do it with a nasal quality like in the old astrix tracks and exaclty like in this sample. i m pretty sure it s vanguard, gonna check some presets ,personaly i can t stand these sound anymore, sound dated, we used (and i regret it today cause it s so cheesy) and heard them thousand of times.

man it seems i deleted all my vanguard presets ... some synth have their own character for these kind of patch.. and to me the overused one back in the day sound like coming from vanguard(can sound very nasal and digital) and virus. what you do his just use a saw and modulate is pitch by a lfo or a envelop with fast decay, try using a hp filter with resonance ,you should get already very close if the synth have the caractere you are looking for..(try vanguard ).
what you can do is use a lfo on the pitch to get there and then use a very short decay on the pitch to get more attack like a pluck sound. a over thing you can try is use a fast lfo with small amount like a vibrato to get a buzzing sound
