I'm trying to figure out a way to both connect my Virus B and Nordrack 2 without playing both synths at the same time, when triggered by Cubase.

What I did is, connected my soundcard's midi out to my Virus midi in, and my Virus' midi thru to my Nordrack.
But if I now select a midi channel in Cubase and play some notes, I hear both synths playing!?

How in the world am I going to have all available parts on both synths played in Cubase without them overlapping ech other?

You have to set each synth to their own MIDI channel. You should have 16 MIDI channels to choose from on each of your synths.

Then go to Cubase and make a MIDI track for your nord and another for your Virus, then set each track to the same MIDI channel that you set your Nord and Virus synths to.

Since you only have one MIDI out you will only have 16 channels to work with. The virus has 16 parts, so the Virus could use up to 16 seperate tracks in cubase at the same time playing different sounds.

The nord has 4 parts so it can only use 4 different parts, if you are using them together on the one MIDI output you will not be able to use the full 16 parts of the virus, 4 parts will have to be lost to make way for the nord. This leaves the virus with 12, which is plenty.

Hope I didn't confuse you. MIDI can be confusing.

Easy, Just, disable the chanells you dont want to use on the Virus or NOrd.

Lets say, on midi chanell 1, use the Nord, so, go to chanell 1 in your VIRUS and disable inside the virus iteself.

Yes, very nicely said

You are basically creating one single MIDI track for both keyboards, so thats why they act as "one" and play it at the same time. cause all the MIDI data is assinged to a single track only

Just do what extone said and you should be fine mate

By the way, this can be a creative experiment. People have been combining synths to do one synth sound for a long time

And there is also the optiom to play two diferent synths sounds using the same keyboard for flexibility purpose

Some of the great things in midi routing

I would say that you either need another MIDI out port from your computer, or you need to use one at a time and turn the volume down on the one you aren't using.

I have figured it out.
Thanks for all your help!
In single-multimode I just selected channel 5, 6, 7 etc in my Virus and the first 4 I kept for my Nord, very easy actually

But before I have to dig deep in my Manual again, could someone maybe explain me why my Virus only responds to the lower half of my keyboard in single-multimode?
Is there some setting activated or so?

last question: I found this nice Cubase SX (see below) panel for the Virus, but how do I get it to work in Cubase?
I've tried to import into Cubase, but it doesn't pop up when I open it up!
