There are plenty ways:
-Get a good sound card that will take most of the audio processing on itself (RME HDSP series for example)
-If you use Cubase, use the FREEZE function, a big CPU Saver!
-Make sure your pc is healthy and doesnt run any spyware, viruses, trojans, and useless apps.
-Use windows classic theme on XP
-Get rid of uneeded windows serveses that are running(example: Printing Support)
-Defragment your drive
-Format your system particion more often or a better choice install 2 windowses on one or 2 seperate harddrives/particions and use one for Studio and the other one for your other needs. Ofcourse you need to customize your Studio windows so that it doesnt run useless services and apps.

I'm sure there are way more methods to improve your pc performance.

you have good config on your PC, I think the problem isn't from your sound card or asio, try to clean/configure your operating system, as defrag, and other precious tools....
and search to clean unused softs wish they stay hidden in the memory in each starts !
good luck !
Peace.

to me it sounds like low performance of soundcard. buying other one should do that for you.

also try 'Juli@' souncard, it isn't expensive but sound great.

hey

if u use a lot of vst's then load them using discodsp highlife . it reduces cpu usage & also ram .
FXfreeze also does a similiar job and is more lightweight.
