You could render your individual midi clips as audio, then import them into a drum rack and draw the midi notes from there.

That'd be more work, but it might work if nothing else does.

This would leave him with an audiofile, which is NOT what he wants.

I don't understand the reason for doing this in Cubase anyways. There are programs out there that were designed LOOOONG ago for making MIDI files that are much easier to use than a full blown DAW. All thats involved is notation, and an instrument choice..

I did a quick google search for a couple. I've never used them but they just might interest you:

just double-click on any midi pattern,
than you have one controller lane on bottom of
the step designer. then just choose or add
the parameter that is responsible for program change
and adjust it. that's it.

of course there are several General MIDI trackers,
if you prefer a more basic interface
(and only want to create ringtones).          http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

Ah, I thought he just needed to combine a midi pattern of different instruments into one channel.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Well I guess I'm off topic, but just curious... why even bother with this when all new phones (thus pretty soon all phones) can playback mp3 and other rendered audio files? Good luck with your quest!
