Hello firends,

I want to make midi music wit atleast 3-4 instruments ... say bass , drums , electric guitar and saxophone ... by midi music i mean i want to make each instrument a seperate midi channel in my project (obviously) and then i want the overall mix to be a single mixed midi file . now i know for sure this is possible as i hav heard it in many midi ringtones etc.

how do i go about doing this ? or which software does this well ? prefereances are logic and cubase ...

So far i can get only piano and drums in cubase ... but thats not enough instruments.
and in logic everything plays only piano when u bounce as midi.

thanx in advance .

p.s.= I have already made a topic in the software forrum but i think its ok for one here too wit a more accurate subject .

people will keep misunderstanding you, so you need to be a bit more exact in your question.

i believe the OP's problem is he's trying to create a ringtone for a phone, but all the different midi tracks end up being played back as piano. he's trying to find a way to embed GM instrumet selection in the file itself, so the phone plays the different midi channels within the file as bass, xylophone, windchimes... whatever.

so the issue here is either not correctly specifying the instruments in the file itself or the phone being not...um... GM-compliant(? ... that sounds kind of funny) and not recognizing the different instruments.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

septa u got it perfectly right my friend except the phone will read the file without any problem ... its just that i cant get a mix of different instruments within 1 file just as u said whenever i export the mix as midi i get only piano sound for all the instruments i have put in (except of percussion)

sometimes its standard, isnt it a option when you export?

In cubase or any other sequencer you are able to specify the eact midi channel on how the midi channel talks to the instrument...you got 16 midi channels so this might be the solution..but am not sure..just a thought...make sure you send he midi datas on different channels to the instrument and then export maybe..you can set this in the inspector on the left..

might not be the solution but a try...           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

Zork: this applies to multi-timbral instruments, but not to cellphones - since they only support GM.

you need to add a MIDI program change on the beginning of
every single track, if you want to use more than one instrument.

don't know which number which instrument is,
but you can just load a ringtone into cubase
and check out it's used controller lanes ...

once have found out, when i tried to play a hom-mega ringtone
on my synth and that b**** always changed the patch ...

PS: MIDI channel 10 is for percussions.          http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

PPS: and you need to use controller lanes instead of VST automation for the program change.           http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

if u can explain how to use controller lanes wud be really nice ...

whenever i chnaged the sound of 1 track the other 1 changed too ... so the way to beat that is keep a new chn number for each midi track ... is that the same thing as using controller lanes like u said ?

You could render your individual midi clips as audio, then import them into a drum rack and draw the midi notes from there.

That'd be more work, but it might work if nothing else does.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
