yeah, saw osc.. delay on 8+16 quantize, decay on the pitch so it sounds like a laser or something.. then modulate manualy, the filter, sounds to me thats bandpass and not highpass..
am speaking of the concept music, the especific sound u were talking about..
oh, and use synth1 for making it.. synth1 is the best for making this laser type..
gluck on making it, and on making tons of other diferents..

thats how a beginner and hell even people well versed in synthesis learn by playing with new ideas. sometimes it just takes hearing a sound to inspire one to create a similar sound. i learned by never flipping off init patch and learning to make basic sounds. bass, pads, leads, fx sounds now i can synth my own up in a hurry and tweak them how i want instead of how they sound on most albums.

After havin it in audio chop up some parts where the lfo rate is high and where it is low and add delay.
