Hello folks! =)
i often hear a specific sound in psy-trance which is sounding very "psycedelic" and is modulated by filter frequ. it is not used for leads and melodies but for rhythmic percussive purposes. or for the psy-like-feeling ^^
the best example is here:
this specific sound starts playing around 01:30 (not melody but rhythm) and you hear the squishy filter working
i tried to make a patch like that myself with rob papen's predator. I used 1SAW OSC, a HPF 18db, a delay/verb and i tried to make the squishy filter-sound with:
-filter-env
-filter-lfo
-motion sequ....
but none of them brought the result i wanted and i was not able to create this sort of sound. in the sequencer (abletonlive) i made short 1/16 & 1/8 steps in good rhythm. but i'm still not satisfied with the sound.
can somebody help me how to create those sounds or post a patch where i can study how it is made? or tell me what i did wrong.
im thankful for every kind of help!
THX a lot, love each other and sorry for my bad english

Yeah it sounds like pitch modulation with a delay. and maybe a bandpass filter? And when the pitch modulation goes up or the note the bandpass filter follows.
Than again i could be totally wrong soundcloud.com/supergroover

well,
vanguard is a good choice for learning if you got the isratrance pack. just go for the squelch or psyfart thingy and reverse engineer it. it´s pretty easy done.
basically it´s pitching down sound (usally saw, sure any other wavform will work) with an envelope, while opening the filter. so set envelope 0 sustain, decay to choice and route to pitch down the osc´s tune. now hit a key and open the filter and there you go....

Why do you want to make sounds that have already been made?

very good question shiranui!
i wanted to figure it out how it is made 2 gain experience. i dont wanna copy the track if thats what u thought =P but i often try to figure out how certain sounds are made... it started with the psy-kick and the bassline... instead of downloading a sample i tried to rebuild it for myself and i learned through it
often it helps me in experimenting and in making new sounds if i have the knowledge how to achieve a certain sound. slowly i begin to understand how the whole thing is working.... ^^
but i often make rhythms that have already been made!!!!!!!!
i'm a great fan of 4/4 *joking*

Sorry for hijackign this thread but how do you make those eerie pads ??
"Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth."
Neo: "What truth?"
Spoon Boy: "There is no spoon."

Why would you want to know how other people get specific sounds? For knowledge? To know how it's done. It's not, for me at least, ever about exactly replicating what another artist does. It's about LEARNING from what they do. That being said, it's practically impossible to 'make your own sound' or whatever bs we're talking about, without knowing HOW to make sounds do what you want them to do. You can't invent out of ignorance. Not effectively, in my opinion.
Anyway, I'm tired of that kind of response to these kinds of questions. It's unhelpful and kind of a thread derail. Presumably we're all here to learn from each other, not put down each other for not being as neophilic as the next guy (I find the tendency to neophilia a bit tiresome, in and of itself, sometimes).
