Hi,
Im having trouble with my making climactic build ups. When the build up reaches its peak i just use a normal crash cymbal sample but i realized thats not enough because a crash cymbal is just a weak high frequency sound. Good build ups will explode with more of a bassy booom almost like the sound of an explosion and I'm having trouble synthesising this sound. Any ideas? |

Maybe a deep snare or tom to go along with the crash cymbal?

many artists layer the crash at the end of a build with a kick or a reverse kick. try that |

High-pass filter and reverb in your kick sound.. Should do the trick. Or just use Albino and create what you want.

the problem with reverbing just a kik is that it fades out too quickly whereas i want my "explosion" sound to fade out quite slowly, at least over 1 - 2 bars. And if you increase the level of reverb too much you lose that forcefull attack of the sound. |

but you can fade in the reverb via send, so that you don't kill the sound at the beginning, and still have the long "release"
ps: sorry for the double post, something was wrong with my internet

i have a cd with "production FXs". it got a lot of booms and crashes to make your entries more powerfull. look for something like this..
you also can rip from DVDs. hollywood producers got some amazing FXs.. |

Crash\
+ } Long Reverb as send effect
Kick /
@psylopath:
There's no need even to fade the reverb in via the send... as both the clean sound from the kick/crash channel and the reverb channel play at the same time - i.e. you still get the "forceful attack" (with tiny amount of predelay it sounds perfect )
