Hi.
How did you learn to produce?
. All by yourself?
. Had production classes?
. Through friends (by sharing tips, templates, etc)?
. Do you have a personal guru? |

In my case, I learned some stuff all by myself, reading guides, manuals, tutorials, experimenting a lot.
But the most important things, I learned from friends who shared some precious tips, tricks and tweaks that helped me to achieve a certain type of sound.

Basicly all by myself.
Also i'm studying sound-engineering in university, but most of things i'm learning with own experience, and, certainly, tons of useful tips here around=)

I used a secret method to access The Book of Trance Magick(tm). In it you have to listen to a secret combination of trance records for 72 hours without interruption and then Saint Posford will appear with the book and initiate you into the Supreme Magick of Trance(tm).
You've got to remember to take plenty of acid for him with you, because he's known to have bad tantrums if apprentices approach the Saint without appropriate gifts.

i've only really had one or two sessions with other producers.
it's a bit of a misnomer to say i was self-taught though, because of the amazing help and guidance i've got on forums like psy-forum and here etc...

some studio sessions with goma but just for getting an idea about producing...
the rest was trying & trying & trying...
of course there's a lot of theorical stuff but and the end the most important thing is your personal experience with it.
learning by doing
there are no rules!

At first I tried to make some sounds since I liked what my neighbour wrote by himself on the impulse tracker. I learned everything by experimenting and seeing other people track building.
After I moved dto some decent software, I learned from manuals and friends and more diggin' by myself

i started with rebirth because i wanted to know how to use the drumcomputer for my rockband.. and than i fall in love with psytrance and i keep on playing around with rebirth, than a few months later i got reason and was already very impressed how much you can do with it and finished my first songs..
after finding out that you cant do all the things with reason i checked out cubase. first it was verry difficult to get to know the programm but after playing around 1000 x of hours i started to figure out...by the way, this forum was always a help for me!!!
thx to all who share their knowledge here!!!

The most self study!
Trial and error + reading alot
Reading forums posting questions.
after a while i met someone with a bit more experience that told me how to improve on the production.
The musical part i learned from being a bass/guitar en drum player since i was very young.
I played in a band for serveral years, that gave me alot of insight how to arrange and stuff |
