Back in the day, when there was no Soundcloud and Myspace wasn't known here in Ukraine at all (it wasn't known, probably anywhere outside USA and UK) I was emailing my several tracks as Makus to everyone I could find as mad. Labels didn't reply to emails, well, probably 1 of 10 said something like 'your music is ok, but it doesn't fit our style'. However 70-th or 80-th letter was successful. I got signed to Avatar with a track which, after all, wasn't even released, but they probably felt some potential in it. My 5 years contract with Avatar Records expired this spring. We have warm relations and I am able to release with them anyways.
After I got signed with Avatar, Overdream was created and now labels replied me the same phrase more often: 1 of 5 However as releases started to count it all became much easier. Today I don't have free tracks for more then a year already.

I got a phone call from jonas who runned stoneage records, i'd heard him play some of my tracks in a party here in stockholm some time before that and was all hyped to hear my stuff at a dancefloor with lots of ppl =) anyway he had got a cd from my former partner who i used to make music with in the start who lived in örebro. Jonas said he liked some tracks and wanted to release 2 of them on a compilation called ctrl alt delete. He then asked if i had studio monitors and i said i didnt have anything except a pc. So he told me to go to a music store here in stockholm and pick a pair of monitors out and write it on stoneage bill. I bought a soundcard at the same time. Then before that compilation was out another friend just started Yage records and was doing hes first compilation and wanted a track from me on it. From there it pretty much keept rolling untill today, with tracks & gigs. Only diffrent today with back then is now i barely dont see any money in the tracks beeing signed and released anymore. =)

was making some music on a laptop and some shitty samson at that time, sent an e-mail to 2-3 labels of the style back then, parvati, discovalley, and some other, and finally one track was selected to be on 'Dark Side of Goa' from Discovalley !
Was so happy when it happened, it was in 2006

Most pages to upload music is a shame,
many of them modify the audio color or compress it.
I do not think artists should expose their artwork in a place where they are modified,
you believe that some famous artist, such as Dali, should hang paintings on a website
where blurriness or will change the color?

Please...

don't mess established and recognized artists with newcomers, who want to expose themselves. moreover for most listeners the quality of the music they want to listen to is fine on soundcloud and even youtube, lol. and don't forget that it is free.

I came back to Copenhagen after living in London working as an A&R scout for Polygram and DJing Acid House. I met an old girlfriend and she took me to Trance/Techno parties in Copenhagen and I fell in love with the tripped-out hypnotic music. After some serious months of dancing I went into the studio with a friend and we made a tune called Tundra (and also named the project Tundra).

My favorite label was R&S Records in Belgium (Joey Beltram, Hablando, Ramirez, The Source (Robert Leiner), Aphex Twin etc.) and I send them the demo. One week later the label owner Renaat from R&S called me and told me he wanted to sign it to R&S. I was literally walking on pink fluffy clouds for weeks after. R&S was THE label in those days and we were the first ever Danish artists to get signed with them and instantly was considered among the "Cream of The Cream" in the danish scene.

Sadly the release got postponed (still don't really know why) and the tune was first released a year after on new sub-label - Labirynt Records - of R&S. released alongside names such as Jam & Spoon.

But this was the beginning for me in the Trance/Techno/House scene.

I understand, but free is not = to shit. What happens is that everyone uses it. Everyone is free and if the artist believes that the quality is sufficient, go ahead.
Anyway I have to say that there are players who respect the original audio like Gogear, yes, as mp3 but better than wav SoundCloud.
