How did you came to psytrance

in 97/98. i lived in kazakhstan back then. i liked to listen to all kinds of electronic music, mostly The ORB style, front242 and such. and once i found a cassette with trance music in a small shop. thanks to pirates, really! who ever thought to sell licensed music in kazakshtan during those years??? and i did not even have a cd player. so i really liked that cassette. i had an internet access at work, so i just typed "psychedelic trance" into a search engine to find out more about my discovery and wow, what a colorful and spiritual world i found! and 604 mailing list hehe. after 2/3 months i was really surprised to find out that there were people in my city already organizing trance parties!!! open airs and club events. i joined them, we had few djs who played vinyls and cds which they brought from their international travels and studies, and acid source also. the herb is growing in that region. and the mountains... perfect setting for first experiences. and until now i still think that some of the best parties in my life i witnessed there, in the mountains of kazakhstan, with our psychedelic family of 30 -50 people : )
then in 1999 i went to party in moscow (thanks internet!) and solipse in hungary. and then i moved to moscow the same year.
i love psy trance, my glory music : ))) |

magical parties by goodmood...gosh..i miss the magik of their parties a lot
back on topic, well the 1st time i heard a psy cd, i was studing, and me and some friends had a spliff after lunch..it really hit me "hard" 
so a friend of my class already told me he had something for me to lisdten..he said i would really enjoy..and i did..it was this cd: http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/dv3/dv31cd006.html and THE TRACK that got me hooked on psytrance was nr.5 Talamasca - Armagedon..can you guys belive i heard that track about 30 times that afternoon?i really dig it..never stopped listening to psytrance anymore..my 1st party camed 6 months after..and never stopped ever since..but now i don´t go so often..to much parties and no magik at all (of course i still belive in psy trance, and from time to time i still find one or 2 parties very good)

I discovered darkpsy last year while on vacation in Poland. Met a random Polish girl who wanted to take me to a dance club. I was traveling solo and it was my first night there, so although I initially was going to decline, she was cute and I figured 'Why not?".
Took me into this dark alley way and through these decrepit "barn door"-type doors and it was a near empty bar. She guides me past the bar and through a door. At this time the bass just now is heard. We come upon a spiral staircase and slowly decend. Through a maze of tunnel-like hallways until the hallway opens up to this huge room. Hundreds of people were down here...a lot of girls were dancing on top of the bar and tables. Quite a few were wearing nothing but whipped cream!!
We order a drink and I start to think to myself, "This is not what I expected when I heard the term 'dance music'". The decor was rather bleak...a few old movie posters (50's era??) had a nice glow from the UV and a torch or two were on the walls, but overall it was quite dark (which I REALLY enjoyed). It had the feeling of beeing in a vaulted dungeon...slightly spooky, but not nearly as spooky as the music.
There were what appeared to be holes in the walls....more like bricks that were removed so that a person could squeeze into them. They would lead to different areas...some chill zones, some into smaller dancefloors maybe big enough for 20 or 30 people that were spinning the darkest psy I have ever heard to this day...extremely chaotic and fast. Some pathways lead to a dark room with only a single candle lighting it. Dark corners and no music, just a slight thump from the main room. WILD!! The fact I was a bit nervous going deep into the catacombs with a girl I just met and in a country were I dont really speak the language, dont know the laws or customs made the experience that much more intense.
No drugs (except alcohol) were taken by my guide and I, but man, the combination of music, thumping bass, CRAZY light show and scary yet perfect atmosphere put me into a special state of mind.
Never liked dance music until I found this style! I thought all trance was armin van buren and the like, that dance music was soft....but now I know better. |

Back in 2002 a cousin of mine, who is a dj in here and basically brought psytrance to the city, introduced me to 1200 mics and Hallucinogen. I liked the way it sound and then came to my first party. Had such a great time with the music that was played there that i started to get some names and download it. Fell in love with the psychedelics and here I am.

i meet psytrance because of xp voodoo, it was the summer of 99 and he camed to portugal for his first time to play in a goodmood partie in parque campismo do vigo if im not mistaken, and the funny thing was tht he stayed in a house tht was from a big friend of mine, and they inveted me to go to this partie, and XP told me he was a reggea dj before a trance dj/producer and i was all time messing with him, trying to undersantd the reason tht, why anyone would trade reggea for trance music? offcourse tht all of this were answer to me in the moment i arrive at the partie.Since than i cant stop listening to this music.and since than i respect XP Voodoo choise. |

I was living in Kenya around 1995/96 and my friends and I used to have fleuro set up for parties on the beach in south coast and Malindi with Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails oO and 5 "Fat freddy" sheets which lasted us a couple of years^^(sry for drug refernce but whatever, just say "no" kids ;P).
Then when I went for my first real psy party (shiva moon 98) it felt like coming home to something....it all felt very familiar and I fell in love with festival culture........the eternal psychedelic circus. Jesters, jokers, lasers and lack of logic.

my first time was the new years eve 2005, and it happend at hilltop. entered hilltop on a vodka red bull binge, smoked a lot of hashish and it was so nice to pass the chillum to the beautiful smiling strangers. sipping chai, a friend offered some xtc's and 20 minutes after that...i was raving like a mad man. 2 hours later at around 11.30, popped another one. now thats when magical things started to happen around me. got separated from my friends and tried looking for them for about 20 minutes in vain. guessing i would find them at the bar, i headed there to get myself a drink only to realize it was 00.01 am and it was 2006 already. i hugged the person next to me and she dint mind it. it was like i had known her for years. that was the best hug i have ever recieved.
i danced all night to the music i felt like i had heard before...but never really experienced the deapth and essence of it...the people i never knew were all so happy and smiling...and dint really give a flying f@#k if i had two left feet. i had forgotten who i was with in the first place.
before i knew it, the sun started coming out and the music just got better. i could actually see the faces of the smiling people around me...the people whom i shared so many chillums with and exchanged so many smiles and hugs.
6.45 am i decided i want to be as close to the speakers as i could possibly get and there i was with my head in the bass bin absorbing every bit of the morning sounds, i put my back to the speakers and skinnin up a fat one when one canadian stranger approaches me and hands me a big chunk of hash and asks me if i could roll him a spliff. i was obliged. so we roll a fat one and finally my friends (who got me there in the first place) start appearing from nowhere and exchanged hugs for the new year. we spark the spliff and the dj plays the magic track "hashish" and i couldnt help but turn and look at the dj who is looking back straight at us (smiling) and i pass the spliff to him.
8.30 am and it was time to leave on a 650 km journey to bangalore so we say goodbye to our new friends we met at the party and hop on our royal enfields for the great journey. still on xtcs and the 148 bpm still in our heads for the next 14 hours till we reached our home in bangalore. i see my bed and i cannot help but wonder....its been 48 hours since i last slept.
have been HARD CORE ever since.

it all began at the age of 11.. the year was 1999.
it wasn't PSY that pulled me in the scene.. it was UPLIFTING Trance..
i heard the known series of "Magik" by the known and favorite DJ TIesto, and this is what actually pulled me in the 'Trance World' and made me explore it very fast and discover ..
PSY-Trance
this sounds that make all your body parts move  taking you to another world  make you smile
..and from then my passion to this music is just getting bigger and bigger!

I was never into dancing. i used to think that people would laugh when they saw me dancing.. i used to go to the dance parties at our local club but only cos all my mates used to force me. i would be standing next to the bar and sipping coke (i was underage)... the only time i would let go of myself was when there was some rock/ metal playiing.. then i'd go mad head banging..
one day in '98 when i was visiting my grandparents, my uncle asked me if i would like to see Goa. So we drove down and stayed in Anjuna. that night he took me to bamboo forest. I dont know who was playing. i think it was the god father Goa Gil. anways, as we were driving up, i started to hear a thumping sound. i was freaked that there was something wrong with our car but my uncle told me to chill and just wait. as the thumping grew louder so did my heart beat. we parked up and walked into bamboo forest and i was greeted by the most beautiful sight i had ever seen... beautiful posters of wierd psychedelic designs, pictures of our good lord Shiva and lots of glowing threads. and the most amazing people all around me dressed in the most beautiful colorful clothes with big smiles for everybody. i dont remember the music as much as the vibes.. for the first time, i felt like i belonged. it was the most amazing experience. and i have been a hippy ever since
